Just my opinion.
Every conversation does not have to be political or lobbying in nature. It doesn't have to be angry and screaming about the unfairness of the laws. Some of it is about the emotional toll it takes on us all, from making decisions about where to live or if they will be able to find work but how all those rules affect those that only care about an offender but end up getting punished along side. It is the collateral damage that has the largest voice in this fight because they never lost their rights due to mistakes. They take a beating every day in the name of the people they love that are on the registry, THAT MEANS YOU, coolrich001.
This board is for us to cling together a little and provide the emotional support that is also needed in this fight. Not for activist and political discussions continually, which it seems to becoming again.
If you want to talk about politics and fighting please do it on the site that are ALL ABOUT that. For if you continue to do it here, it will not be tolerated for long, for it pushes out those that are in real need of emotional support and scares them in to believing that some of the feelings they are having will be counter productive to 'the cause'. There is no cause here other than to survive the onslaught of crap our public and their leaders will shovel onto us.... so we can go back to those activist sites and be productive.
You misconstrued what I meant. All I was saying is that for those of us that have been in this fight for many years, activism is a part of our nature.
Also, I have seen that many here are asking questions about the laws. For those of us that can answer, we should. We should not and can not ignore these requests for information. We also should direct those people to other groups, as I have done.
I am here only to support where I can. I will not get in pissing matches with others. That is not my nature. I will give information based on my own experience and what I have learned from others. We all should do that.
By my last count, there are 750,000 souls on the registry nationally. Some are repeats and doubles. Even so, it is over 700,000. If each one of those souls has one person whop cares about them, there are over 1.5 million effected by these laws. Out of this, less than 1% are seeking support which, in my way of thinking, is the first step to activism.
If you do not want me here because of this, fine. It is your call.
I agree that there is only 1% that speak about it at all in any forum, even this one... and if we alienate people that start here and are looking for support so they can help themselves first... then we are losing already. For until we save ourselves we can't save anyone else... I am a wife, I have to take care of me first before I can help my husband to overcome what is going to happen to us in the future. I do my activist thing in the appropriate places, just not here... it isn't the place for it...
Actually One of Them made a group that was for activist support type stuff... it was for the more edgy topics and the more 'what are we going to do' type things... It was called Sex Offender Justice League and I know he always appreciates a good scrap.. :)
I was attacked by Red and merely defended myself. If you want to bitch slap me for doing so go right ahead. Though I don't think that is very "supportive."
We could start an 'activist' group here at dailystrength.. but that won't keep people talking about problems and solutions here. If all you want here is for people to say.. oh, I"m sorry and I'll pray for you and good by, then you'll have a lot of not much going on here.
SOSEN is a standard forum application. This is more of a thread application, like emails. The SOSEN forum takes some getting used to but when you do, there is a ton of information.
All I would like is that people are respectful of each other... There are a few here that seem to want to push the envelope. Well by pushing that envelope I have noticed that a lot of people that used to post do not anymore. I wonder if it is because they believe they will be treated poorly by the few that seem to want to stir up controversy.
I am not saying to NEVER discuss activist issues, cause it is going to come up due to the nature of this subject. But to always keep in mind that this group is not here to 'make meaningful change' in our government at a whole, but to support each other. When there are snide remarks made and holier than thou posturing being demonstrated it is time for one of the admins to step up and be referee. Many times this falls on me.
I personally don't think that anyone should leave, but if you feel you must then you must. But the support system that this site provides to some is their ONLY support system and the last thing those people need is feeling when they post they will be judged by those that are supposed to be on their side.
It is like the old cliche, there is a time and place for everything they just aren't all the same place.
Wisconsin is an admirable and respectable lady. I stand behind her efforts, knowledge and decisions.
Thank you Wisconsin for keeping this forum a friendly and respectful place for us all to come :)
It does give me comfort that people want to fight. I feel completely helpless sitting here otherwise.
