"Growing Up Bipolar" May 26, 2008
Anyone else read Newsweek's "Growing Up Bipolar" article in the May 26th issue? This issue is finally getting some national coverage and attention. The article states that 800,000 children are diagnosed with bipolar. That means that one out of ten of 800,000 mothers have children that will commit suicide. This is an atrocity. Even defining the problem and diagnosing bipolar "is more an art than a science." That is not enough. These children and their families deserve definitive answers. The little boy in the article, Max, at 10 years of age has been on 38 psychoactive drugs. This is a travesty. It is time for answers and hope. It is time to transform the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of bipolar. It is time to pave the way for a cure.
