Epilepsy surgery questions....

Posted on 07/28/10, 12:34 am
Sooo...My doc wants me to consider the surgery, but my question to you is...have any of you had the surgery where your injury/tumor was in one of the VENTRICLE spaces of your brain? I mean, where exactly will they cut or remove if it was a ventricular tumor? (And a big one)? Can you actually pinpoint that or are you just using me as a guinea pig? And yes I will be asking my doc all of these questions when I see him next month. I just want your opinion on this as to how you all feel on this having gone through the surgery.
Also the area they want to remove is where my numbers and memories are stored. Did any of you loose memories? Did you have bad side effects of the surgery? Did you have good side effects? I gave Tonic Clonics, did the surgery stop yours? I also have small petite seizures all day long as well. Did the surgery stop those? Im a little scared and a little angry at being told they want to cut me again so please excuse my tone. Thanks for any advise you offer, and dont worry, you can be frank with me, I dont offend easily.

I don't know what a VENTRICLE space is but I do know they can pin point it. My sez were close to a area where they couldn't operate. I had over 200 probes inserted in my brain. I say they built a GPS in my head. It was really cool to see the screen that showed the brain activity. I could even see the activity when I was thinking and not talking. They pinpointed the exact place that I needed to have removed and it worked. 5 years and no more sez.

I recently had the surgery with mine they had to remove all scar tissue and part of my right tempral lobe the part that deals with short term memory. I do not regret having that surgery at all as far as i know i have been completely seizure free since the surgery the reason i say as far as i know is because i never knew when i was having a seizure before but friends and family havent seen me have a seizure. as for the memory before the surgery everytime i was having a seizure i was loosing memory and i was having 4-5 a day but when i first came out of the surgery there were some things i didnt remember due to all the swelling but as the swelling came down it all came back and now my memory is about the same as what it was before the surgery and the doctors say that my memory could get better or stay the same. as for side effects i seem to be experiencing some form of anxiety as well as some sort of a depression stage but the doctors have said that it's normal and that will pass.
