Welcome to the Endometriosis Support Group, "I feel comforted and supported when i am in contact with fellow sufferers and realise i am not alone....."Endometriosis is a disease that effects approx 2 million women in the UK, with various degree's of physical and emotional impact depending on the individual. Some women have no symptons at all yet for others Endometriosis can be a chronic and debilitating condition. It can be lonely and frustrating dealing with the physical and emotional symptoms of Endometriosis.Common Physical symptoms include (many more additional complaints are typical too)Painful PeriodsFatigueInfertilityHeavy or Irregular PeriodsPain during or after sexIBS SymptomsEach of these physical symptoms, combined with delayed diagnosis, intrusive surgery and hormonal treatments can cause a great deal of anxiety. Endometriosis reaches beyond ones physical health and impacts our social and emotional wellbeing also, as a employee, wife, mother and friend. This Endometriosis Support Group has been created because there is not enough being done to provide consistent information and support to women who have this disease. Health providers should work harder to help inform women earlier of the symptoms of Endometriosis, through leaflets, education and the media. On diagnosis women should be given information about WHERE TO GO for further information and support. The main function of this Endometriosis Support Group is to provide a 'PLACE to GO' either online or at the monthly meetings, where you can keep in touch with others that have the disease and that understand how complex the symptoms, treatments, emotional stress and life impact can be.The most important focus, however, is on SELF MANAGEMENT and LEARNING about this disease. Monthly meetings will have a theme and occasional professional speakers too, in the fields of medicine, pain management, complementary therapy for example.EVERYONE is welcome, and everyone is a valued as the next.
