Heres an interesting topic. Of course this question wont be answered until we get a few EMT'S here but lets start it anyway. I say that the police are always first on the scene so we are the true first responders.

well i have found the ambos are all was there before us so i find that they are the true first responders in mva's and when it comes to fires well we know the answer to that it is the fireies who are first to be called and in mva's police come threerd because they are busy on other calls -

Well I think even a civilian can be a first responder. I've done that a few times in auto accidents. But usually the first to be there are either police or fire department. -

The police have to be the first responders in order to make sure the scene is safe for all others...EMT's ETC. -

To make a long story short- we're all in this together. Even those of us who work at the prison., Sorry I made a mistake earlier saying we when I was referring to police. -

I was the only first responder to a gang beat-down. I am a former Marine, and an electrician. Point being that it can fall to anyone, and you have to hit, or you sit. No in between. And I have total respect for the Guardians, emt's, firemen, guards, security guards; anyone who stands between the citizen and the howling chaos of the savages who prey on the defenseless. -

Often in small towns it not necessarly a group/department (ambo's or firey) but people who have to be multiskilled and be able to multitask that are first on scene, unfortunitely police hardly ever rate in this area out of last 7 MVA's they probably only attended 2.
I totally agree with Swampy. I also admire anyone who has ever had to be first on scene or an incident controller, and I thank everyone who has ever turned up at an incident weather first or last, your caringand compassion is always appreicated.
