Prozac for Bulimia?

Posted on 05/10/09, 02:28 pm
Has anyone tried Prozac to make the urges not as strong? My psychiatrist said that Prozac is FDA approved to help treat bulimia. Have you tried it? Did it help? Thoughts, feedback...

I am on Prozac for depression, because I am a binge eater and not bulimic I am not really sure if it would work for you, honestly it has not helped curb my binges and if anything it made me gain weight.

Really?? It made you gain weight? I heard that if anything it's supposed to have the opposite effect! Are you sure the Prozac is what made you gain, not the binging? Has the prozac helped your depression? Thanks for replying.

I was on it, and I found that it helped me significantly. I recently stopped taking it because I moved out-of-state and my new job doesn't offer health insurance. I simply cannot afford it without. I've relapsed since being off the medication. It's worth a shot for you! Hope this helps.

I'm glad it helped so much. That's kind of scary if your recovery depends on it though... Good luck getting back on your feet since relapse

I was on 60mg/day. No help, it made me more flat affect, like more mellow, but I couldn't orgasm, and that was super frustrating. It did not take the urges away for me, but it may be different for everyone, especially if you have a good therapist at the same time.

my doctor put me on phentermine 37.5 mg, and it supresses your appetite, I would say I didnt binge or purge for about a month and a half but now my body is use to it...so i'm off of it so my body will lose the tolerence. Has anyone tried mixed aphenmine salt tabs? I was put on that yesterday to help the bulimia.. but I dont know how that would work since it the generic version of adderall
