She passed away this afternoon
Posted on 10/28/09, 08:40 pm
Has anyone watched a beloved pet pass on? I watched my sisters dog do that today. She had laboured breathing for about 8 hours. Oh she was a fighter. I tried to be there for my sister but heck I knew this dog for over 14 years, She was my dogs sister. It was soo hard to watch. She fought every breath till she couldn't no more. It was so sad but at the same time a relief. Shes not suffering. She's up there with her other brother, running around like puppies.
We took her to the vets so she could be cremated. My sisters kids couldn't get home in time so that is why the cremation. They want to say their final goodbyes.
I'm rambling, sorry. I've never experienced this before.

Hi barlochan,
It is Pat (Spe3ro from the colon cancer group). I am truly sorry for the loss of the pet. I only know too well the depth of the loss of a furry friend. I only hope there really is a Rainbow Bridge and it helps me in
thinking of someday seeing all of my pets from the past again. Healthy and carefree running through the grass towards me when I leave this world.
It is something to hang on through the grief. I lost my best friend 30 weeks ago today and still grieving, although we did adopt another dog
shortly after I still feel the depth of despair every Sunday moning at
9:00 when we had to let him go. Max was my rock and anchor during those tough times with cancer surgeries and treatmnents. Never left my side
except to eat and go outside. It was nice to spill all of the fears and
so forth and he would keep all of my feelings to himself, but would look me in the eyes as if to say things would be okay. He was right, I
am fine and cancer free as of today. A friend told me Max was sent to me to help me through what was facing me in the future and when his work was done it was time for him to leave. Maybe this is so, but he was only seven years old and passed from complications from Lyme Disease. I will always feel badly not being able to save him. He was a terrific friend. This just goes to prove animals bring to us more than we bring to them. Your sister is so fortunate to have you be there with her. I will say a special prayer for you and your sisters family as this is a tough loss. Be well and take care. -

I lost my yellow lab, Buttercup, in May and went through each stage of her dying. I got her through Alpo poisoning, out of control diabetes but couldn't beat her cancer. She died with the people she loved around her (the vet put her to sleep when she couldn't eat, drink or walk). I had her cremated and her ashes scattered in the mountains she loved.

We lost our dog after 14 1/2 years in 1998. It was very hard losing Gizmo. He was a wonderful dog. 4 mos. later we adopted Sammy. I'm sorry I haven't posted a pic yet. I will as soon as I find my photo albums. We moved just 2 months ago. :) -
