The best idea ever

Posted by SeanCky - 09/09/08, 10:30 am
Making this group was the most productive and best idea that I ever went through with. I am so glad to have you all. I am currently doing well and am not on as much but I log in once a day to make sure the group stay open and is still running smoothly. Hopefulforlife is running the chats and I am very pleased as this has become a self ran group and I don't have to do much matinence at all. I may contact some of the more active ones and delegate some duties to help the group but besides that this group is growing and the support you give one another is all on your own. I am so  glad to have you all!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK'S MEMBER: CRYINGSOUL

Posted by SeanCky - 06/02/08, 10:42 am

Everyweek(or as much as possible) A new member will be interviewed. They will be asked some questions by our interviewer and will be in the member spotlight on here. This is the first edition with none other then our member Cryingsoul

1. Q: Do you have any experience with 12 step other than DA?

A: Had not heard of it until I joined here.

2. Q: How is it for you now?

A: Well, it hasn't been as bad lately, to tell you the truth
I am planning to visit a friend from ds this Summer, and
am really looking forward to it. He has helped me
through a few things. Though I haven't helped him as
much, I try my best. I am nervous because it will be my
first time flying and I will be by myself. I think that
I really need to get away from here for a bit. I hope he
looking forward to it as much as I am. Also,I am having
a rough time with sleeping recently; waking up at 3:00 am
and not getting back to sleep is no fun.

3. Q: What goal do you have in DA?

A: My goal would be to help people who also suffer from
depression and to maybe find other ways to cope with
depression. Also, I would like to make friends, too.
Can't have too many friends!

4. Q: Do you have much contact with other DA members?

A: No. I haven't been on much. Work and classes are
taking up much of my time. I might know some of them,
though.

5. Q: What else do you do to deal with depression?

A: I try to just distract myself from it, like coing crafts
or writing. It keeps my mind off those unpleasant dark
thoughts. Creating something gives me a sense of accomp-
lishment, and even if its just a small little thing. I
guess even the smallest things can cause a big impact.

6. Q: Do you see any helping professionals?

A: I do, sort of. At the moment I am seeing a counselor
through work, but that is not enough. So I asked my doc- tor to schedule me an appointment with one because I had
a really bad day a while ago. It was not fun. The
doctor says it will take at least three weels, or three
months; cannot remember which. That day was also not a
good day. I was really distraught. So I am still waiting
for that appointment, but have a feeling they will call
me soon; at least I hope they do.

7. Q: Did finding the DA Community help you?

A: This is a very big YES! It helps me so much. Without
it, I probably wouldn't be here right now. The support
is wonderful, and the people are great :)

8. Q: When did you find DA?

A: I found it a few months ago, I think. I can't really
recall, but was browsing the groups, and spotted it.
It looked like a good group to join, so I decided why
not?

Thanks to BobCJ for doing the interview

Welcome to the group

Posted by SeanCky - 04/21/08, 10:39 am
Welcome to our group. We all accept each other no matter what thoughts or feelings we have and will all have new friends who may share similar experiences. Please add everyone as a friend from this group. To make this work for you I need you to take some steps first when you join. Please add each member of the group to your personal friends list also. Be open to other members messaging you about what they are going through and talking to you about their depression. Feel free to sympathize and share your experiences with them also and tell them what approaches you are taking to get better. Do not try and give physcological advise and please leave that to the professionals. We just ask you lend friendly words and ears to the others. Step 2 please read any discussion topics I have created. It contains a lot of what the group stands for and what it does. We do not refer to God or Jesus but a higher power. Your welcome to interpret the higher power as you see fit and we will not argue or discuss your personal believes because as I said we welcome everyone to go through this group with no discrimination. We will have chat room times setup for the group to actually have the meetings and go through the steps. I will lead the first meeting and then ask for volunteers. You do not have to talk the first time around or share but if you feel you want to you are more then welcome. That is the reason for the group is to listen to you and give kind words, sympathy, or encouragement. I will be taking votes on the best time for everyone to meet to make it convinent for everyone to show up.
