where the soul goes when we die

Is there a passage in the bible saying that the soul goes back to God who gave it? I thought I had read it or maybe I just heard someone say it. I tried to find it on Bible.com and Gateway Bible but can't find a passage for it . Can someone on here help me please? I saw where someone asked the question on a topix site that I read and didn't want to say anything until I'm sure where it is in the bible.
