Read at my dad's funeral
Posted on 10/30/08, 07:59 pm
(I wrote this with my sister to read at my dad's funeral. He passed shortly after I wrote the first poem...)
Hello, our dearest Daddy.
Even though you are not here,
We know you're in God's hands
So no more tears, no more fear.
Remember when we were little
And we'd read to you at night?
From Berenstain Bears to Curious George -
Wow, weren't we a sight!
You used to take us golfing
The two girls that you loved.
Riding around in the golf cart
With our pigtails, smiles and plastic clubs.
As we grew older,
You weren't just "Daddy", but a friend.
You taught us life's lessons
That we'll take with us to the end.
You taught us to be strong.
You showed us how to fight.
Remain firm in our beliefs,
And stand up for what is right.
We'll always miss you, Daddy.
But we'll try not to be sad
For we know we'll see you soon -
Our Hero, our Friend, our Dad.
