"Green" Project

I just started crocheting again after many years so I've spent some time online to find free patterns that are simple enough for me to relearn and to practice on. I came across this link and thought that it was such a good idea for reusing plastic bags. I'm going to try to find (or create) a pattern for storage bins to put on shelves in the pantry. The nice thing about these is that when they get dirty or dusty, you can just put them in the dish water. This link shows you how to make the "plarn" strips, then you just use it like you would yarn.

You crochet strips of plastic? Heaven knows the world needs a constructive use for all those plastic bags we are straddled with!

Pretty cool, huh? In Florida they are talking about banning the plastic bags in 5 years which I think is great. My mom has always used the cloth net bags when she shops so I want to make a couple of shopping bags (using this method) for her too.

I think it is awesome that you have started to crochet again. Would love to see anything you do. I have not crocheted in so long.....I have been doing cards, recipes and wedding stuff.

My aunt taught me how to do this years ago. At the time we were making matts to take and use in campground showers.
