A colon resection surgery is performed to remove a part or the entire colon (large intestine). This is also known as “colectomy”. In colon resection, the patient receives a general anesthesia right before surgery. This makes the patient unconscious and they are unable to feel the pain. Colon resection surgery can be performed either laparoscopically or by open surgery.
