desperate never ending migraines/headaches 17 yrs
Posted on 11/15/08, 09:30 pm
My husband is 40. Has had migraines for 17 years. Has a headache EVERY day of his life with migraines 3-4 times a week. Sometimes lasting 3 days! He has tried EVERY medication made. Had every neurological exam, MRI cat-scans etc. He has been told there is no help for his extreme case. We have tried every diet, removing foods, drinks.. Acupuncture, massage nothing helps. He is now severly depressed. Has ANYONE had a problem this severe? Can you get disability? Any help/suggetions welcome.

Tabi1966- Since a root canal 4 years, I also have chronic daily migraines. The only thing that changes is the severity of the migraine. But I wake up EVERY day, and yup my head hurts. Has your husband identified any triggers? I've had all the scans too, and until my most recent dr., they have all given up because my migraines are "too severe" and "don't respond to treatment". I was able to file for state disability in CA, for the maximum of one year. When I tried to file for permanent disability (federal-SSDI), I was told that migraines are not a qualifying illness because they cannot prove them on any test. I was also told I could still apply, and appeal, etc. but the chances of winning were very slim. kazual was able to get SSDI.. how on earth did you do it?! -

I am on ssdi and disability from state govt. Documentation is key. Your husband sounds like me. I have sufferred for 27 years. I have headaches around 5 days per week. I have tried everything, nothing helps. I am trying to play the hand I am dealt with Gods help, but it is tough. Your husband is blessed to have your understanding and help. If he files for disability it will help him get it quicker if he has diagnosis for depression as well. Depression is normal for people in chronic pain. The key work for disability with headaches is that the Doctor says they are INTRACTABLE. I will pay for him and will be glad to offer any help I can. -

Closing 2008 was awful , I ended up laying in bed in the dark on New Year's Eve. There was no way I could do anything with my head pounding so I just slept. New Year's Day I woke up with another Migraine. That is how my year started.
January just ended and I recorded all the days I had Migraine headaches . In January I had migraines 20 days out of 31 days and starting February with a migraine .
I am waiting till Thursday when I go to the Doctor to complain about my headaches.
So far no one can adjust my headaches with meds and I have had theese headaches for many years.
There are days I think my head is going to blow off. -

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE HAVING REBOUND HEADACHES. I HAVE BEEN IN THIS CYCLE BEFORE IT IS TERRIBLE. PLEASE SEEK HELP FOR MEDICATION OVERUSE. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT - YOUR MIGRAINE MAINTENANCE MEDICATION IS NOT WORKING AND THUS YOU ARE HAVING TOO MANY HEADACHES AND TAKING YOUR PAIN MEDS MORE THAN THREE TIMES A WEEK. THE PAIN MEDS WILL RELIEVE THE HEADACHE, BUT IT WILL SET YOU UP FOR ANOTHER HEADACHE THE NEXT DAY. PLEASE READ MY JOURNAL ENTRIES AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO. -

Check out the NTI splint for migraine prevention. www.headacheprevention.com I had chronic daily headache that was a full blown migraine 80 percent of my waking hours for 4 years. Went to more headache clinics and neurogists than I can cound Met dr boyd the inventor of the NTI at a headache clinic where he works with Dr Andrew Blumenfeld of the Neurology center at Scripps in San Diego . After a couple months my headaches tapered off to a couple a month. I get one a month occasionally now. Best 400 bucks I ever spent. -

My daughter has been seen by Dr. Blumenfeld in San Diego and was also fitted in an NTI device. He also put her on Namenda which is traditionally given to Alzheimer patients. The combination of the medication and the device which prevents clenching has been working. She spent over 6 months waking up with a headache/migraine almost every day. She still gets migraines once in a while but not like she used to. Good luck as I know how difficult this can be! Dr. Boyd is the dentist that designed the NTI device. He works with Dr. Blumenfeld who is a neurologist and runs the clinic. -
