This is one topic we should ALL be watching. For the sake of Honduras and for the sake of America's crashing reputation.

PO It does amaze me as how America continually maintains that it has a moral Upperhand when this stuff is constantly happening. -

Yeh. I think it's important, recent evidence that corruption is going on. Enthusiasm to BOMB innocent civilians but no enthusiasm to HELP innocent ones. In fact, they are purely paying lip service. The new admin is no doubt pro U.S - it'd have to be to buy its way in. Recently Micheletti or someone on the coup side said 'we have to wait for the business elite to consent to Zelaya's return.'
Says a lot about our world. As well as the U.S still training the military that supports this de facto government. -

What brings half a million immigrants to a country with such a poor reputation every year, not to mention the illegal aliens from Mexico, India, China, the Philippines, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras? What drives people to want to see a doctor in such a horrible country, when they could see one in their own country?

It's not the country itself. It's what's done in the NAME of the country by the State. -

Indeed Bistro. But let me say, Rome was quite a free society and civilized at home. It's behaviour abroad however...
I sense you are a little annoyed - but those immigrants paticularly the ones from the Philippines, El Salvador and Guatemala - Mexico etc etc are fleeing povery brought upon them by generations of colonialism and then interventions from the United States government be it economic, political, CIA, or full on military.
Poverty and the rich/poor divide was already increased previous to the neo-liberal reforms of the 1970's - but was accelated DRASTICALLY by such a change. One statistic from the 2004 book I am reading quotes Margeret Thatchers stunning statistic of 1 in 4 people brought below the poverty line from something like 1 in 12 previous to her Neo-Liberal experiment.
I don't know how much you've studied it and don't mean to be condescending at all. What I want is for the PEOPLE of American to 'take it back'.
A good way of understanding my view is to watch 'The war on Democracy' available here:

I'm not annoyed; I just can't see what would bring so many people into a country with such a poor reputation. Thanks, SP - I get it now. And I'm with you, PO - I want the people to take our coutry back too. I am all for that. -

"I just can't see what would bring so many people into a country with such a poor reputation. "
Propaganda and false promises bistro, sorry but it's true. Plenty of immigrants are 'laundered' - a guy will say the he's taking a boys choir to sing and raise money for folks back home, get them into the U.S then enslave them (this has actually happened)
Clintons suspended aid to Honduras came months after constant nagging and pressure from the whole of Latin America, she tried to ignore it and has tried every trick in the book to dismiss the situation.
'Your actions were reckless in returning to your country' etc etc
Also I would hardly trust the New York times - as far as I know the U.S is still training Honduran military, which is something over $100 million in aid - the aid they have cut is humanitarian I believe - not the military - but correct me if I'm wrong.
