Dudley Massachusetts has passed an ordinance that says no one can have more than 3 cats. Anyone having more than 3 has to get a special 'residential kennel' license.
Is this absurd or what?

What if the cats you keep are more than three but can be acceptable if at least they are all fixed. Only three cats to be kept? Does not sound good to me. -

Law states no more than 3 cats per household. Doesn't matter if they're fixed or not. -

That would be terrible if I lived there I have 7. -

I know where I live a person is only allowed to have 4 pets doesn't matter if it is dogs or cats 4 is the limit but most people have more. I myself have taken in strays from time to time so I have exceeded the limit on occassions but our shelters are packed and I just can't stand see any cats or any animal left to fend for itself on the streets so I will continue to take them in and find them good homes. -

Amen katiebell. I have a friend who has 16 cats. He wouldn't fit in there either. There's no number limit on love.
How about some town passing a law that people can't have more than 3 KIDS? You'd never see that happening! -

I think in China they do limit to one kid in the family. -

They used to in order to control population growth. Worked too. I think they relaxed things in recent years but I'm not sure. But that's China. You'd NEVER see that in America. Kids are more destructive than cats but anyone can have 18 of them without anyone raising a fuss..... -

I can't help but wonder if measures were put in place so that good pets won't have to be put down because an owner can't afford the specail kennel or find a good home for their pet. I can't imagine having to take a pet to a shelter because the law suddenly changed, esp if I were being repsonsible in caring for the numerous cats. (like disposing of used litter properly, and keeping outdoor cats in my own yard and keeping the yard clean of pet droppings and what not)
Where we live we are only allowed one pet per household, meaning dog or cat... a tennant can have all the birds, fish, or creepy reptiles their heart desires. (I'm not a big lizard or snake person... it's the tongue thing. soooooo creepy) Also, the dog or cat must be under 20 pounds, be spayed or nutered, and in the case of a cat declawed to prevent them from clawing up the cheap baseboards and door frames. (unless of course, the cat is too old for the sugery in which case there is a big long list of crap a tennant must do to ensure the blah blah blah, ending with an additional deposit for "given damages").
I wonder why cats were the only target with this ordinance and not also people with four or five of those yippy little lap dogs. My neighbor hase a yorkie and it is so LOUD. Luckily for me she's only allowed one, otherwise we'd be overrun with them. -

Some apartments are like that.I would never live any where that ordered meto mutilate my pets (unless it were extended to dogs and children as well.I've never had a cat draw on the walls in crayon or splash paint everywhere but cats aren't allowed). Here they used to allow cats but not any more. Too bad because there's lots of mice around here and the cats keep down the ones that come inside. Once we're out of here there will be no cats left in the complex. We're the last ones. Too bad.

Your right, there is no limit on love.I have seven cats and they are the loves of my life.I guess Im glad I dont live in Dudley,Mass. But its true that alot of rented places dont allow any pets, and some that do only allow certian ones like just cats ect.And those that do allow them are some times asking for deposits if your going to have a pet.Im very lucky I live in a place thats owned by my sons parents-in-law and they love animals and allow me to have what ever I want. But Im not taken that for granted, seven cats is enough for me,lol.
