art with a purpose

I haven't been on in awhile. I am very excited to share that I was invited to be on two different radio programs to talk about my art. It was so cool because I got to really talk about my art having a purpose beyond "eye-candy". it is a web radio station so on one of the program we did an interactive with my work that is on the web and it was so amazing of a response. I live in a conservative place but I shared my work that was accepted in the Viewing Program at the Drawing Center in New York. That is my very autobiographical body of work that deals with my emotions of my abuse and the damage and pain and etc. The reality of what happens. I got calls and emails. a very positive response to the work in which much of the time around here where I live people just get all twisted and really don't understand. but somehow I guess people got it! and responded so movingly. I was just very excited and honored and thrilled. I just wanted to share here because I know many of us are trying to get out there with purpose driven art to communicate. I don't want to put pictures of the work directly on here because it is quite confrontational and rather graphic and I don't want anybody to be not okay. But if you are interested in seeing it. You can go to the Drawing Centers website you can google it or I think the website address is www.drawingcenter.org. but google it and you will hit it. anyway go to the Viewing Program and on the search (location) go to Idaho. and my name is Connie Sales. right now evidently I am the only Idaho artist there because when you type in idaho under location I am the only name that comes up so it is easy to find me that way. I would love to hear any feedback from other purpose driven artists and supporters. It is powerful emotional work and confrontational and graphic. so please keep that in mind if you do look at it as I don't want people to be triggered or anything. That is also why I am sharing this here and not on my journal or elsewhere because this group is for sharing these types of things. Thank you Freedom
