I have been around awhile, but am trying to get more involved in support groups with others with compulsive or binge eating, and hopefully gain some ground against this disorder. I am 54, a counselor myself, a mom, a grandmother, and a wife. I consider myself pretty successful in my field, and my family life is pretty happy. But the monster of compulsive overeating keeps taking hits at me again and again. I will have victory for awhile, lose weight, gain control over food, and then some stressor, happens, or my health plunges, or my exercise routine gets off track. This year I got thru Christmas, with a substantial weight loss. But in January I got an upper respiratory infection and twisted my ankle. I stayed in more than I should, and my weight is up about 20 pounds from what it was. I am in therapy myself, and my therapist has had some success with eating disorders. She is recommending i see a nutritionist and a psychiatrist as well. I would love any perspective you can give me.
