I think it has turned the show into a farce and they've officially jumped the shark.
The producers admit to only looking for the biggest name they could get which says to me anyway that they are more focused on the judges than the contestants who should be the focus of the show. I would have preferred going back to only 3 judges but knew they wouldn't do that because they don't want people to think Kara was brought in just to replace Paula. I don't understand why they go and get someone who knows nothing about singing, songwriting, music producing, playing an instrument, emoting and connecting to an audience while performing a song...i could go on. Sure Ellen's a comedienne and tv host and all that so she has experience being on a stage but it's not the same kind of performing. And you know they figured they'd get her to be the nice one like Paula was but even Paula would tell someone if they weren't good just in a nicer way and given how Ellen was on So You Think You Can Dance, she never told anyone they weren't good, even the performances that were lacking!
Ellen says she is going to be like the voice of the people, but most people are brutal in their own judgements of contestants on the show and I doubt she has it in her to be that mean because she still has to have the booted contestants on her show and such. It's a slap in the face to Paula too because you know darn well they gave Ellen more money than they offered Paula - and Ellen got a 5 year deal!
I cannot imagine 5 years of Ellen on Idol. At this point I am so disappointed I am not sure I will bother to watch it this year. Sounds harsh but I think they've just gone and ruined a good thing with all their changes for change sake and then disrespecting Paula and her leaving and then replacing her with someone who isn't even in the music business in any way just shows me they could care less that they are a singing competition as they so often want to remind us at home when they believe we are not going with their planned outcome.
