Who Do You Want To See Win?
Posted on 05/17/09, 10:06 pm
From what I have read online, the final performance night will go down in three "rounds" as in years past. They are:
1)Contestant's Favorite - said to be their fave from during the season (last year they were given the option to do a new song or reprise something they had already done)
2)A song chosen for them by 19E head/Idol Producer Simon Fuller
3)The Coronation song (there is only one this year so they will both have to sing the same coronation song; no word as to whether they will allow them to take liberties with the melody to fit their styles or be forced to sing it as is as they infamously did to Blake Lewis in season 6 all but assuring Jordin's win that year. Certainly if they do not win it is major advantage to Adam...)
*Kris won the coin toss to determine performance order and opted to go second, thus finally ending the Adam pimp spot reign of three weeks straight.
My guess is that while Kris' best performance came last week with Heartless, he will opt to not reprise it. Most times when contestants reprise a song they just did the week before it just garners the response that it wasn't as good (see Kat McPhee's reprise of Somewhere Over The Rainbow). I would bet he would pick Falling Slowly, as he has noted that he would love to do that on the tour and he was seen doing that song many times over during his home visit. Adam would best be served doing Mad World, arguably his best performance - BUT - I would not be surprised if he choses to bring back his most controversial, that being Ring Of Fire. He's stated on Idol Extra that he wants to do that on the tour and it was his favorite this season so I wouldn't be surprised to see him bring it back. I think it would depend on whether he wants to stay truer to himself or try to gain more casual votes.
Certainly, the style of the coronation song and whether they can change it, and Simon Fuller's picks may show bias in favor of Adam winning. Given how blatant the show has been in pimping him, it would not surprise me at all to see both of those rounds favoring Adam. I would also not be surprised to see Simon Cowell call each round as he usually does, one in favor of Adam, one in favor of Kris, and one giving Kris an edge over Adam declaring Kris may have stolen this away from Adam (much like last yer with his declaration that Archie won it over Cook, only to change his mind on the results show). Doing that, he figures to relax the Kris fans thinking he's got it in the bag now and make Adam fans feel the need to rally all night. Of course, most Kris fans will not relax and think he's safe because they will see through that scenario so I'm sure there is a plan B in which they still declare Adam should win it and then beg people to vote for him again like they did last week. That too could incite the Kris fans though.
The voting timeframe extends to four hours next week for the finale. Do you intend to vote? If so, are you voting for Adam? Are you voting for Kris? Will you wait to see how they perform on Tuesday to decide?
I personally will continue to vote for Kris as I have been all season because I love his style and have enjoyed what he has brought to the show. I also happen to love an underdog!

I WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR DANNY BUT SINCE HE IS GONE, I WILL HAVE TO VOTE FOR KRIS BECAUSE IT JUST SEEMS LIKE ADAM SCREAMS TOO MUCH. BUT I DO LIKE HIM A LOT -

I had a harder time getting through this week in 4 hours than I did in 2 last week....lots of busy signals for Kris all night long and DialIdol (if anyone believes them at this point) has Kris in the lead by a hair.
The coronation song was horrid. Kara should have been ashamed - she's more talented than that dreck! I had heard a rumor that they would let them change the song up but it didn't seem as though they did. They didn't even seem to change the key for Kris when they played it the second time! I hated it when Adam sang it because it seemed all over the place and he was just screaming and wailing. Even though it was out of Kris' key and he was straining a bit, I prefered his version because the song seemed more tolerable to me.
I also felt they sort of lowballed him on his second song. I liked the arrangement and I thought it was different and fresh. Granted after Adam's high note hollering anything that subdued would seem like a let down I suppose but frankly, I agreed with little Suri Cruise in the audience who had her hands on her ears when Adam was singing. I prefered the subdued. But then again I have all season.
Even Adam's reprise of Mad World, the one performance of his I truly enjoyed all season was lacking for me the second time around. I agreed with Simon that it was too theatrical. kris just changed his Ain't No Sunshine up just enough to make it seem a little newer spiffier than the first time he did it (back when no one was paying much attention to him, at least not the judges). Overall, I felt like they anointed Adadm the next winner and gave Kris the old "thanks for playing here are your lovely parting gifts now don't let the door hit you on your way out" type speech when it was closer than they were making it. Perhaps that strategy will backfire on them. Last year, they were ready to hand the title to Archuleta on performance night but were singing a different tune come Wednesday.
Either way it's fine since Adam's been the projected winner since day one practically, but how great of a tv watercooler moment could they have with a shocking underdog win?! -

I'm hoping for the watercooler cooler moment!
And yes, the coronation song was horrid! -

That coronation song was a friggin' joke! It sucked all over the place! I don't think it suited either of them. I do agree that Kris's version was definitely more tolerable. If Adam didn't annoy me so much, I'd hope for him to win just so Kris wouldn't get stuck with that awful song playing on the radio endlessly. If Adam does win it, I'll be changing the radio dial often. I do hope Kris wins though just to spite the judges.
I was glad when Adam started singing Mad World, but you're right. It wasn't so great this time. Simon Fuller was trying to sway the vote even more towards Adam with his song choice for Kris. I like the song, but come on! That's not a good song to sing on idol! I wish they would've let Clive Anderson pick again this year.
I'm tired of Adam being compared to Steven Tyler. He doesn't hold a candle to him. All these people talking about how "talented" Adam is are just killing me!!!! Clean out your ears people!!! He's not that great!!!
If next year is gonna be anything like this year, I don't know if I want to watch. Unless they pay Simon Cowell an insane amount of money, it's doubtful that he'll be back. As far as Kara goes, I liked her at first, but now she's getting really annoying. I also wish the judges would come up with some other lines other than "pitchy", "that was the bomb", "we got a hot one tonight", etc...Oh, & Kara's "rock god" comments are getting old too!!! Lol!
Sorry, had to vent about that!!! Lol! -

I thought the intro bit they did with the judges' tonight with all their repetitive wordage was quite funny and illustrated your point - they do need to learn some new words and come up with some new catchphrases for next year!
I think (I could be wrong on this) Simon is signed for one more year and then he can walk....Paula and Kara are the ones without contracts for the next season. My guess is they will wait on Kara until they know whether Paula will be back. If she walks, then Kara will be back for sure. If Paula stays....well they may bring Kara back for one more year just to have someone on the ready to fill any vacancy that could come the following year. Plus, they hate looking like they agree with the public that their changes were not successful. Willing to bet the "judges' save" comes back next season too just to save some face on ever implementing it in the first place.
I have a feeling that Kris' What's Going On was originally picked for Danny and when he was knocked out, they just gave Kris the song. I heard someone say they thought "No Boundaries" was really written for Danny more so than Adam or Kris and if you think about it, he probably would've done well with it. Had he made the finale and had No Boundaries and What's Going On (and probably would've reprised Hero), he actually could've won. I'm much happier with the way things turned out (I'd bet so is Adam, even though he didn't win, because he is much closer friends with Kris than he seemed to be with Danny). Adam will be fine I'm sure...and many of his fans are justifying his loss by thinking it is better for his career because now he will not be saddled with the same crap material Idol has tended to push on its winners. Knowing Kris is capable of writing some very good songs (seriously, Kris fans - do yourself a favor and hop on Rickey.org and do a search for Kris' self produced album Brand New Shoes so you can hear some of his pre show material, it is fabulous) so I hope he gets to do like David Cook did and gets a majority of his own writing on the album so it is more fitting and less pop dreck like that coronation song.
Overall, the show was good tonight - although the top 13 do not blend well together vocally and the song choices were weird for them. Plus, was I the only one scratching my head when Lil got a duet but Matt and Anoop just got brief lines in groups songs? And Scott gets not one lead line but Michael sang more tonight than he did all season?! Definitely strange.
