Coconut oil has made me feel so much better that I wanted to create a thread all on it's own rather than trailing off from the cholesterol one.
About 30 minutes after I took a tablespoon my mind cleared and my vision improved.
I don't know if this would be good for Hep C specifically - I seem to be more affected by the Epstein-Barr virus and perhaps chronic fatigue syndrome, and I can only say that it really helped the brain fog and a general inflammed feeling in my head. My vision was so bad I couldn't even read the words on the PC screen periodically so I couldn't work at my job.
Here's some interesting info about how they're using coconut oil with some diseases:

And here's all you ever wanted to know (and far more) about fats:

I have to admit I only scanned this article and will probably never read it all, but I thought this was interesting:
The membrane of every cell and organelle is a lipid envelope,
a thin fatty acid sliver that encases and protects the
internal cellular components. This bi-lipid envelope is far
more than isolation and protection, for linked and interlocked
within the membrane are literally thousands of peptides
(proteins) from the DNA, large and small, that form
the windows and doors of the cell.
"There were no adverse effects noted with ingestion of coconut oil, however there were occasional brief episodes of explosive diarrhea (2-3 times per week) that occurred after arriving at the 40 ml quantity of MCT oil, which have become less frequent." sorry that just made me laugh! LOL
yes, i'm so happy to hear your feeling better! i think i'm going to get some coconut oil. how are you using it? to cook with? i'm thinking of putting it on my skin too?
Thanks you guys :) Yes I'm so glad to be feeling better. My eyesight continues to improve and my brain fog. I'm hoping this devastating fatigue will be the next to leave. I'm being very careful not to to get stressed as this is especially important for EBV.
It seems coconut oil has a lot of anti-viral and immune enhancement properties from what I'm reading.
I put some coconut oil on my skin and it removed some little wrinkles ! (even after I washed it off). Amazing stuff.
Some people appear to need more good fat in their system and you could be one of those quasar, but I think it would be best to keep this monitored at the dr as you add more fat to your diet.
At this point I'm just spreading it on Ezekial bread, or putting some in my coffee, or adding some to the top of my talapia after it's done (never good to heat up oil too much).
I can see you are finding a lot of uses for the coconut oil. I wonder what would happen if I included coconut in my diet, as a whole food, instead of the coconut oil? I used to get those little young coconuts and drink the water, and make things with the soft fruit/meat inside. I have to go a long way to get those, however, to get them fresh. But aged coconuts are everywhere. hmmmm.....let's see what happens!
Yeah I've thought of that too...just going for whole coconut as opposed to the oil. I was trying to figure out how much of a coconut I'd need to eat to get 1 Tablesoon.
I found a good recipe for coconut oil yesterday. You can mix the oil with cocoa or carob powder in equal proportions, and throw in some vanilla, stevia, and a pinch of salt. Spoon it on some walnuts.
Then freeze it in little muffin pans. I don't have muffin pans so going to try freezing it in a square glass pan and cutting it into pieces. Maybe even just putting it in the fridge will cause it to be a bit like fudge.
raw coconut meat is 85.1% calories from fat, 3.8% from protein and 11.1% from carbs. Fat grams have 9 calories, protein and carb grams have 4 calories.
100 grams of coconut meat, raw, has 3.3 grams protein, 33.5 grams fat and 15.2 grams carbs.
So it's roughly 2/3 fat. So instead of 1 T coconut oil, it would take 1 1/2 T coconut meat.
3T coconut oil would be replaced by 4 1/2 T coconut meat.
1T coconut oil is about 15 grams or 135 calories
1 1/2 T coconut meat should have the same amount of calories from fat.
I read somewhere that you have to do something special to the coconut meat to get the benefit from the oils (soak in water or something). Sorry...I should bookmark this stuff I read surfing late at night..lol.
It's the lauric acid in the coconut oil that has most of the beneficial properties - maybe it's hard to extract that by eating the flesh only. I would like to see this verified in more articles before negating eating the meat though.
It's always better to get your nutrients from food if possible isn't it.
I have hepatitis C. I was informed some time ago that the coconut oil can be a healing agent for this potentially fatal disease. I had undergone the medical treatment with interferon with no success. I was only real sick form the interfuron treatment, lost my hair, and became severely anemic. That was about 6 years ago. In the last 4 years I began nutritional regiments noted to help/heal hepatitis c. That includes flax seed oil, milk thistle, multi vitamins, and in the last 2 years- coconut oil. My viral load was initially at 5 million- high! In the last 3 years it has gone from that to 1/20th of a million- low! My Dr. is amazed. I feel better, more energy. And most importantly I now have the belief I can watch my grand-children grow up. I believe that the coconut oil was a major ingredient that boosted this healing. It is also yummy! What else is good about a Vitamix MAK1AH? I love to buy new appliances..lol.
Wow that's some testimonial Sandy, but it's right up there with what I experienced. After taking it only ONCE my eyesight cleared and my brain become less foggy. Reading about it more, it actually bypasses digestion and goes straight to the live, then shoots straight to the brain (that's really a technical explanation..lol).
I have had a big problem with Epstein-Barr (which causes vision problems and brain fog) and read that coconut oil has anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-something else properties.
So I can only imagine it would help with HCV too.
I love the flavor of it, and yes it does transfer to the food some. I use it as a salad dressing with some balsamic vinegar - very yummy, and also add some to steamed veggies.
I use it to grease a pan so veggies don't stick when I bake them.
I found it at the new grocery store I visited over the weekend (awesome mega HEB), and debated on it, but decided against it. I'll be going back to get it....always looking for something to help!
I have an old Moulinex juicer, and want to upgrade, but I don't want to spend a ton of money either. I want one with a bigger hopper...I have to cut my stuff up pretty small for this one. Any recommendations.
You know yesterday I was feeling groggy and just spent....took a tablespoon of the coconut oil and within half an hour I was feeling much better! Again I read somewhere that it breaks the envelope that covers the virons and I guess I have to ask, what or where do all these virons go that have been set free...are we supposed to counter act this with another supplement like.....narginen or blueberry extract, or oxymatrine or something?
It is funny but a good question no????? I mean the old action reaction theory applies here....I think we need MAKIA with all her infinite knowledge to step up here and help us out!
I'm really glad you're doing better.
thanks for posting this...

I would consider putting coconut in my smoothies.
