Vitamin Study, 2007
Posted on 02/16/09, 02:06 pm
I have a study that was done on 550 multi-vitamin formulas. Most of them are junk. I can provide a PDF copy upon request.
Here are the top 10 and -- the only ones that scored over 80%.
The % is from 1-100% absorbability, ingredients and quality.
USANA Health Sciences Essentials (U.S.) 96.1% 1
Douglas Laboratories Ultra Preventive X 95.4% 2
Vitamin Research Products Extended Plus 93.1% 3
Source Naturals Life Force Multiple 92.8% 4
Source Naturals Elan VitaI 91.8% 5
USANA Health Sciences Essentials (Canadian) 90.2% 6
FreeLife Basic Mindell Plus 82.3% 7
Life Extension Foundation Life Extension Mix 81.4% 8
Now where is Shaklee?
OH, there they are.
Shaklee Vita-Lea Advanced Formula 13.4% 332
Only 13.4% out of a possible 100.
Still they came in 332 out of 550, so they are better than the 167 below them. Which includes One-A-Day. LOL
So, Steve, if you really want to help people, it looks like you should be selling USANA. Great company! Too pricey for me, but so is Shaklee.
I get my supps at iHerb.com, great prices, great choices, great customer service. No, I don't work for them.
By the way, calcium carbonate, which is in Shaklee's vitamins, is not absorbable by humans.
Liquid Calcium Citrate with magnesium will get rid of a cramp really fast. I also take Bone-Up, read the label and compare it to Shaklee.

You can also read the 71 reviews by happy customers.
The B12 in the Shaklee vitamins is the cheap cyanocobalamin. The superior forms are Methylcobalamin or Dibencozide. That's what Jarrow puts in Bone-Up.
I do not take USANA. I can't afford it.
Now, please stop promoting Shaklee on DS! It's violating the terms of service. You really should know more about what you're selling. But it's better than 1/3 of the other multi's, right? And worse than 2/3 of them.
I'm not being mean, Steve, that's the facts. The only reason you think they are good is that you sell them and they tell you they are good, but they are not that good. Sell USANA.

Sharper? That's right, it is Shaklee Canada, and it's amazing, that they list the ingedients, while Shaklee US DOES NOT!!!! What are they trying to hide?
I went to that link you posted for the JAMA, found no Shaklee, did a search using the word Shaklee and the only thing that came up was someone whose last name is shaklee.
I did have fun over there, tho, searching for death medical errors
Found this from 2001.
The number of deaths in US hospitals that are reportedly due to medical errors is disturbingly high. A recent Institute of Medicine report quoted rates estimating that medical errors kill between 44 000 and 98 000 people a year in US hospitals.1 These widely quoted statistics have helped create initiatives directed at patient safety throughout the United States. The numbers are undeniably startling; they suggest that more Americans are killed in US hospitals every 6 months than died in the entire Vietnam War, and some have compared the alleged rate to 3 fully loaded jumbo jets crashing every other day.2 Widely disseminated quotes include, "medical mistakes kill 180 000 people a year in US hospitals"3 and "medical errors may be the 5th leading cause of death."4 If these inferences are correct, the health care system is a public health menace of epidemic proportions. -

I don't believe anything doctors have to say, nor anything anyone else has to say. I don't believe anything that anyone says, I check it out and study it, if I'm interested. If not, forget it, know what I mean?
Calcium carbonate is about 26% absorbable. Personally, I've not had good results with it. When I take Citrate, I notice it within 15 minutes. I take it for leg cramps.
It is true that calcium is best taken with a meal, so it is for the multi vitamin as well.
