Yes, nicholi was dispalying sighns of something when he was born he got therapy for his delays but we did not have him diagnosed until he was 3
Sadie was 31/2. i just thought she was a more difficult child when i told the dr things she brushed them off that when we took her to a specialist

When I thought something was wrong with him from day one iwas being told it was my fault he wasn't eating properly he hated formula and baby food he was hungry all the time I cried a lot I thought I was a bad mother until i talked to others with similar stories. So when we finally had nicholi Diagnosed I was ok with it because of how smart and wonderful he is
With sadie screamed for yrs never wanted to sleep after being told I was not feeding my child when nicholi was a baby I was scared to take her because i thought i was going to be told I was doing something else horrible but I was releived when we found a good dr
5. WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT HAVING A CHILD WITH ASD?
Not being able to comfort him and her when they are having a meltdown it breaks my heart not to hold them when they are upset. I used to say nicholi not talking and telling me he loved me but I have learned that he tells me with his touch and his eyes how much he loves me
Not sleeping was hard for YEARS til we found Melatonin
6. WHAT IS THE BEST THING?
How loving they are the roller coaser of emotions sometimes can be good because somedays nicholi can not get enough of holding and hugging and I love it. Watching sadie defy the odds and is comming out of her cloud she is a sponge now she is so smart.

We did not because i researched and asked questions and they did not display symptoms of children that the diet worked for

We use supplements, Omega 3, Melatonin, calsium, friut and veggie vitamins

No I did not until they reached preschool a big article was wrote I think in US weekly can't remember but i thought with my family history and husbands I chose not to but they still have autism. But I know my girls will never get gardisil to prevent cervical canser after what I have seen and heard

I have learned i am a lot stronger than I thought I was and not every child is the same with how they got autism and we need to support each other whether we beleive in the same thing or not. And that is why i went to the rally not that I beleive vaccines did this to my children but the beleif that it has done it to many children and i wanted to be a support for them

Not until I got the referral I begged for from my pediatrician. It cost him nearly a year of EI.
4. WHAT DID YOU THINK WHEN YOU FIRST LEARNED YOUR CHILD HAD AUTISM?
I thought this is devestating, I cried nearly all day (even tho I knew that's what it was BEFORE the DX), then I thought-"time to get to work".
5. WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT HAVING A CHILD WITH ASD?
For me it is the fear of the unknown. Fear for what his future will hold, fear for unkind people, fear of school age bullies, fear that I am not doing enough.

Autism has enlightened me to a whole new world of friends, and awakened in me what my life's purpose is- helping families like my own.

Yes, and it worked beautifully. Thankfully, he has been able to move on without any loss of skills or language. Now he eats mainly whatever he is willing to.

We have not used biomed treatments. Homeopathic, yes, no biomed. Chelation down right scares me.

Parents who have tried everything to potty train, and are desperate should read up on the Fox/Asrine Toileting Program. While the program is very intense and hurts even the toughest mom's heart, it works.

I'm more focused on creating supports for families who live with challenges now, there are enough people focusing on rates, and cures.

No, but I'm on my way to making sure my child reccovers to the best of his ability.

My chld attends a typical preschool with the support of an aide and a behavioral specialist.

Not really sure, but I know that I envision ADL Center as the first center of it's kind and a model of excellence for other states to follow.

Yes I did, but now have stopped until I can find a physician who is willing to do shots seperately, one at a time, and thirmesol, or mercury free.

Never take the words I love you for granted, some parents NEVER get to hear their child speak those words.

No I wouldn't, he is just him, and knowing him I wouldn't trade him for the world. Matthew has autism, without the autism, he wouldn't be the same kid. I love him unconditionally.

Not right away.Both of my sons were just dx recently.For a long time i was told there was nothing wrong with them.

i live in a country that has only had autism diagnosis available a few years it used to be the case up until the early 90's you would of had to travel to England for a diagnosis but in my little country the groups that has done the most is Autism NI(PAPA) AND THE NATIONAL AUTISTIC SOCIETY. also praxis.

Yes i did but Alister showed signs of autism before hand so i was happy to go ahead i believe that we try to blame things for our children's conditions but the truth is no one really knows why our kids have autism and to stop them getting their shots is madness they don't need to get ill on top of everything else!!

Yes, Pediatric Neurologist & Pediatrician referred me to a Pediatric Psychologist who specialized in Autism Diagnosis.
4. WHAT DID YOU THINK WHEN YOU FIRST LEARNED YOUR CHILD HAD AUTISM?
I came to the realization slowly & strongly suspected before any Doctors mentioned the word. I was surprised that the official diagnosis was severe. My primary thought was OK, now he'll be placed in the proper PreK.
5. WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT HAVING A CHILD WITH ASD?
Fear for his future. Will he be bullied? How independent can he be? Who will watch over him when I am too old. (I was 45 when he was born.)

Personally, the people I have met on web boards have been the greatest. They have shared personal experiences, informational websites & just been a fellow traveler on the road with autism.

Yes, I did, and he has been one of the lucky few to have had no negative reaction to shots. Of course our Pediatrician has used a more relaxed schedule than some & refuses to give a shot if a child has been ill in the last week.

Be more understanding, it can be easy to judge another parent but unless you know the situation you should not be judgemental.

i believe that support and help for families that are already living with autism is more important than numbers i also believe that helping parents who need help in getting a diagnosis done is more needed right now

No, i believe that while treatment options improve the lives of people with autism, i do not believe it is something that needs to be cured it is a disability not a disease.

My son goes to a special school for his certain needs and then goes to a mainstream primary school for an hour a day to help with other learning areas

18. WHAT IS THE STUPIDEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER SAID ABOUT YOUR KID?
your mother can't take you anywhere, someone actually said that to my son when he was having a meltdown. another one was has he settled down yet?
19. WHAT DO YOU SAY WHEN SOMEONE ASKS "WHAT IS AUTISM?
I explain that it is a disability that affects him and that while he looks normal he has trouble understanding things that we do and that is why he acts the way he does.
20. WHO IS YOUR "AUTISM COMMUNITY HERO"?
i think i would have to say all the families that love and support autistic indiviaduals, they are the unsung heroes that without them the world would be a sad and unloving place
21. WHAT GROUP/ORGANIZATION DO YOU THINK HAS DONE THE MOST FOR THE COMMUNITY
I think there are many groups/organizations that try and do the best they can for children and their families.
22. DID YOU VACCINATE YOUR CHILD AND DO YOU CONTINUE TO DO SO?
Yes I did and any more he needs he will get, also if i have any more children they will be vaccinated.
23. DOES YOUR FAMILY ACCEPT YOUR CHILD HAVING AUTISM?
I have been blessed with a loving and supportive family who are there for the both of us
24. WHAT LESSON HAVE YOU LEARNED AFTER ALL OF THIS?
no matter how hard your life gets there will always be someone that is doin git tougher, so see the joy in the small things and never take anything for granted.
25. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME WOULD YOU WISH THEY DIDN'T HAVE AUTISM?
it would be nice, but i believe the autism is part of him and who he is as a person. I love him for him and though life would be easier without the autism he wouldn't be him.
