Wishing for a BFF...sigh

Posted on 05/25/08, 10:47 pm
I don't know about anyone else here, but I am having a moment of revelation. I do not have a Best Friend anymore, and haven't in a long while. Don't know if it is diagnosis related or if I have only myself to blame. LOL.
However, I think WITH DX now, it's tougher. I'm busy with the Center, and my family and it seems as if people all SAY they get it, but then they really DON'T.
I think you guys are really my most reliable and best friends. I can write any hour, tell you anything, and count on you to reply, understand or flat out tell me I'm being ridiculous. That is true friendship.
Wish you all lived in my neighborhood...

Everybody needs to get out sometime and if iwere there where you all live, we would babysit!!!! I did this for my friend whose son exhibits signs of mild autism and we were out with him at a show (friend and I are performers) and this woman looks at me, the caregiver for the child that night, and says 'he has autism, right? That is what I heard'. Excuse me?! How inappropriate, hello! the child can HEAR and he is very smart! After that I told her no more bars, we will watch him at home where he is most comfortable anyway. Secondly, I have lost many many friends due to their probing questions about my family's 'weird' behavior and their insistence on talking about it after we said we dont want to hear it and address it to the person it concerns.

My only real friend lives so very far away we do write but we both have kids and with me haveing CFS it is hard for me to write to her sometimes. It is about 4 hours by car to see her and she still has family by me but she has 5 kids so she does not get this way often. I live in michigan don't know if any of you live near me or not but I am looking for friends also.

I have 2 actually.. or at least, i kind of do.. they both live so far away.. Don't you just long for the one that calls and says, " hey, I'm on my way over.. whatcha got to eat?" or you can call and say.. Im bored.. my kids are making me crazy.. come over and give me adult conversation.. Bring the kids! Let them make each other crazy!! ... (sigh) .. yeah.. I miss it too..

I have a best friend since five years old. she is in my neighborhood too! and she loves my dd in a very special way too! I am so thankful for her. and nonetheless I am so thankful for the internet and people who absolutely get it that I wouldn't be able to find anyplace else.

Hi Barb, I live in Michigan too. Where in Michigan do you live? I live in Ishpeming in the Upper Peninsula. I have Asperger's Syndrome, so I have a really hard time making friends. Take Care. Dawn
