Hobbies And Pastimes

Do you have hobbies and pastimes that you enjoy?

Some common hobbies and pastimes include
-coin collecting
-stamp collecting
-grandchildren
-gardening
-genealogy
-travel
-self-improvement
-club memberships
-physical fitness

I collect quotations. I then do research at libraries and on the internet to try to verify the correct wording of the quotations, authors, and context in which the quotations were made (date, place, publication, speech, etc. For example, "Those who spread sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." - James Matthew Barrie. I keep thousands of quotations in binders, printed on paper, because I don't trust computer hard-drives and disks enough - things have a way of getting deleted or lost. There is a small possibility that my collection of quotations could someday appear as a book in your local library or bookstore - years from now, of course.

Please tell us about your hobbies and pastimes.

I enjoy reading, Clint Eastwood movies, writing poetry, birdwatching. I used to like to take long walks but I can't anymore, but we still get out in nature. I like fishing. My wife and I spend many hours with her four grown, married daughters and their families. We have 12 grandkids

Many hobbies are low-cost and no-cost, for example:

Coin Collecting. You can start with just your pocket change. Look for old or unusual coins among those you get back when you make purchases. When collecting coins, remember that although you can shine them up with a toothbrush and a mixture of vinegar and baking soda or with a commercial metal polish/cleaner, doing so will destroy the value of the coins. Leave them in the state you found them, with their 'natural patina' (coloring effect caused by corrosive action of air and other substances). Being here on the Daily Strength Website offers a wonderful opportunity for people to trade the coins and paper currency of their country with the coins and paper currency of other people in countries worldwide who also are members of the Daily Strength Website.

Rock, Shell, and Natural Objects Collecting. You can combine hiking or walking or nature walks with collecting rocks, seashells, bird feathers, and leaves and flowers (which can be pressed if you wish).

Autograph Collecting. You can collect autographs in several ways. Many people collect them on plain paper, sometimes in a notebook or 'autograph book'. Other ways include having authors sign their books for you when they make appearances at local bookstores. Many celebrities will send you a free signed photograph of themselves just for the asking: movie stars, talk show hosts, politicians, and others.

Can you think of other hobbies?

i work with others in (God willing) helping them walk through their "difficulties" just as others did for me. i absolutely love to be in nature, i garden , paint, sew, read, practice yoga and healthy lifestyles, collect shells and rocks, self improvement (a good one i saw up there) as well as genealogy too. i could go on but there are just so many pastimes i do enjoy. oh and yes most of what i enjoy is free or low cost as well.

for me, its so important to remain in a positive mind set and all these things encourage that in my own disability.

ps ............... what a great support group this is , im new here and like what i see .. its all so encouraging and positive ... thank you

Welcome
