I had a meaningful conversation the other day
With a stranger who approached me in an odd way.
I rose from my bed to a yarn and stretch
Then proceeded to the shower as a sour wretch.
When I stepped into the lavatory to my surprise
Was a voice calling out to me from what seemed the skies.
It said, "You've neglected to honor your true self."
I didn't quite understand, but was willing to delve.
I said, "Please elaborate, explain your mission here."
It replied, "When I'm finished it will all be crystal clear."
"You see, every morning when you put on that shirt and tie,
You're trying to cover up all the things that hurt inside.
You have a wife and child that you haven't seen in days,
Business trips are the reasons you use to evade.
You used to rage against the machine and mock "the man",
But now you laugh at every corporate joke and shake their hands."
I was appalled by the nerve of this shrill hound
Then I ordered the voice to immediately reveal now.
It said, "I'm closer to the real you than quite expected..
And I'm here to see the old you is resurrected.
And now if you would turn around you'd have answered your question."
It seems the voice of mystery was my own reflection.
