FAST FACTS
An Introduction to Us All
Posted in Autism / Autism... by Dr. Jeremy F. Shapiro on Mar 30, 2008

I meet new parents-to-be quite often and a favorite question thrown my way is "Why did you want to become a pediatrician?" Without fail, a smile comes across my face as I think back to many (maybe many many) years ago when I realized my goal of wanting to have a positive impact on children. I was a camp counselor and relished the role of contributing to their development and helping them find their own smile.

From there, it became clear that becoming a pediatrician would best allow me to fulfill this dream and follow my other passions of medicine and public health. Now that I have been practicing for a few years, it only solidifies my belief that I was meant to care for children.

So what about the parents? I love them all. Now certainly some can be a bit overbearing, but one thing I have realized over the years is that all every parent wants is what is best for his or her child. And I will always respect this, whether it involves discussions about vaccinations or medications or alternative therapy or whatever the issue may be. Again, we all only want what is best for our children.

And what led me here to Daily Strength? I believe Daily Strength plays a role so very necessary in the overall well-being of all of us, whether we are caring for someone else or just ourselves. We come here with questions and knowledge and experience and find a community where we can share it with people who are in similar situations. It benefits all of us, immensely, as we all have something to gain from having Daily Strength in our lives.

So please look forward to hearing me discuss current health-related issues affecting our children, and therefore, ourselves as well. And I look forward to hearing from you all about a topic you may want to hear more about or just your thoughts about something I've said--whether you agree or disagree. We are here for each other, hoping to better all of us along the way.

All the best,

Dr. Jeremy

Dr. Jeremy:

Hello! I am excitedto meet you to. IT IS "all about the children"!!! A kindred spirit online. That's a beautiful thing. I do not know how to blog, but I will learn SOON.

The only thing weseem to disagree on isyour statement, "every parent wants what is best..." I respectfully disagree. I fight for those who are abused & neglected by their own parents. They are usually the ones who grow up to be one of two things; very unhappy or felons. Save the children and we will save the world.

I do not know how to blog but can be reached @ tammieholley@gmail.com. Thanks
