ANSWERS

How do I write a journal entry?
Click on Write next to My Journal. Or go to your My Journal page, and click Write a New Entry.

Can other people read my journal?
We've added three levels of privacy. You can choose to let everyone view your entries, or just your friends, or just yourself. When you write a new journal entry, choose an option under "Who can view this journal entry?"

Can I change the privacy settings on old journal entries?
Yes. To change the setting on a journal entry, go to My Journals, select an entry, and click on Edit. At bottom of entry, choose an option under "Who can view this journal entry?"

Adding colors, fonts, etc to journal entries
We've added lots of cool things you can do to make your journal entries more personal.

  • To change the COLOR of your journal text, simply select the relevant text and click the color icon. You can also highlight text (like using a highlighter marker) by selecting the relevant text and clicking the highlight icon.
  • To change the FONT of your text, highlight the relevant text and use the CHOOSE FONT drop-down menu. You can also change the sizing of the font by clicking on the FONT SIZE drop-down menu.
  • To change the STYLE of your text, select the relevant text and click the B for bold, the I for italics, the U for underline, the strikethrough ABC icon for strikethrough, or the subscript or superscript icons.
  • You can also make the text LEFT, CENTER or RIGHT JUSTIFIED.
  • To HYPERLINK words or a photo in your journal entry to another web page, highlight the relevant text or photo, click the "chain icon" and type in the URL, including the "http://" part. (To remove that link, highlight the link and click the "breaking chain" icon.
  • To ADD A CUSTOM CHARACTER, click on the Omega icon next to the insert image icon.

Can I add photos to my journal?
Add photos by clicking the picture icon on the journal editor bar. Then click the Browse button and select a photo from your gallery, or click the Add New link at the top to upload a new photo to your gallery which you can then select to add to your journal.

Can I add my own HTML, javascript or photos from another site?
Um....no. Sorry. You cannot insert HTML or javascript into a journal entry. Photos must be uploaded to DailyStrength - no externally hosted photos can be posted.

How do I use the Find and Replace features of the journal editor?
To find a word or phrase in your journal entry, click on the icon of the binoculars to start your search. The "up" and "down" option will search above or below your cursor, so if the application doesn't find anything the first time, try toggling the Up and Down options to see if searching in the other direction finds the word or phrase. To replace a word or phrase in your journal entry, click on the icon to the right of the binoculars. Enter the word or phrase you would like to replace, and then enter the word or phrase you would like to replace it with. The "up" and "down" option will search above or below your cursor, so if the application doesn't find anything the first time, try toggling these options. "Find Next" will find the next instance, and "Replace" will replace the selected instance. "Replace All" will replace all instances in the direction of the search ("up" or "down").

How do I use the Undo and Redo features of the journal editor?
If you want to undo something, click on the curved arrow icon pointing to the left. This will undo a portion of your last action. If you continue to press it, it will undo more and more actions. If you want to redo (which means you want to undo an undo), click on the curved arrow icon pointing to the right. This will redo an action that you have pressed "undo" for.

How do I delete or edit my journal?
Go to My Journals and view the journal entry you would like to change, and click on edit to the right of the journal entry date. To edit, make changes and click Save. To delete, click on Delete this entry.

Can I delete comments on my journal page?
Yes. To remove a comment on your journal, go to your journal entry page, find the comment, and click on Delete in the right corner. If you feel there is an abusive comment, please write us.

How do I make a video journal entry?
By uploading your video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/), you can create your own DailyStrength video journal! Once you have uploaded your video onto YouTube, you can embed the video in your DailyStrength journal. To embed your uploaded YouTube video into your DailyStrength journal, click on the filmstrip icon in the journal toolbar. Then, in the field labeled "File/URL," paste the URL of your YouTube video. It should look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=######## Once you've pasted the URL, click anywhere in the preview screen. Your video should appear in the preview. Click "Insert." Then, save your journal. You're done! For a video tutorial that shows you how to embed the video, visit TeamDS' journal entry "How to embed YouTube into your Journal."

Why won't my journal entry save?
If you have problems saving your entry, the issue may be related to your browser. DailyStrength (along with many other websites), has not yet been fully optimized for use with Internet Explorer 9.0. For the best experience on DailyStrength, try running Internet Explorer 9.0 in compatibility mode, or try using a supported browser.
