Brain Injury Support Group

Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

It is 8/15/10@9:00 a.m. Central Time. I am new to the Brain Injury Support Group, but I definitely qualify as a head injury survivor. It took some time to be successfully treated between a five-drug cocktail and finding a "new normal" in my life - and I am not without deficits to be sure - but I am on the road to living a normal life. But I seek offline friends with others who can relate to what it's like to live with daily deficits, but who also have a positive attitude in their lives. I live six miles BETWEEN two small towns and twelve miles away from a midsized town of 7,000 people. So I want and need to make friends with others...

Is there any Brain Injury support groups in your area?? That would be a great way for your to connect with other TBI survivors.....You could try to contact your local Brain Injury Association to see what activities they offer to Brain Injured people....I am actively involved with our local Brain Injury Coalition and Brain Injury Support Group and I feel it helps me cope a great deal with my deficits...

I come from a rural area, 6,000 during any season besides the Summer when it explodes to 30,000. We live on the Oregon Coast and it gets a bit crazy then.

But, I understand the lack fo support. Toms suggestion of contact the BIA group is good, but if you don't live near a bigger city, they really don't have much to offer.

there are some really good BI groups on Yahoo.

You don't say how long ago your BI was, and were you were in recovery? I do like that you re looking for positive attidutes in peoples lives, it all to easy to get "stuck" in the why me stuff.

Hey just wanted to say that you have a great out look on life. One I am trying to get back into my life. It's people like you how make the world not seem as bad as it was when I went outside the last time.

When you have been through experiences like us survivors have, You need to stay positive and maintain hope...and very often, that is a lot easier said than done..

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
