My nephew Michael was diagnosed with Wilms tumor Wednesday night and had his left kidney removed Friday night. I'm at the hospital with his mom, dad and rest of the family. Any words of wisdom would be great. They have so many questions and concerns.

Thank you!

" Hi - my daughter was just diagnosed with Wilms and had her left kidney and adrenal gland removed on 06/11/10. She's also started chemo. I've learned so much from all the physicians, nurses, child life specialists and websites like Mayo Clinic about the tumor and other resources. Although I'm new to this also, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have....if I can. My daughter's Wilms also spread to her lungs which is why we are going through the Chemo. Being strong for your nephew and helping the family cope, or do laundry, cook, clean, be a shoulder to cry on at 3am is the best support you can give them!!!! Hope some of this helps! Jen "

" I am thirty six. I had wilm's tumor and had a kidney removed when I was six months old. I survived and don't actually remember anything. I wish you all the best. . . "
