Advice:
Reaction to chemo

My daughter has only had one chemo treatment, the 2nd in a few days. I am wondering what side effects she may already be experiencing, or what may be coming soon.

She doesn't have much of a appetite and when she does eat she takes a few bites then holds the last bite in her mouth. I'm thinking that her mouth hurts and she doesn't want to chew anymore. Or maybe her throat hurts and she won't swallow.

Any advice on good foods for her to eat?

" I had mouth sores after taking Chemo, I was 5 and 6 so that was many years ago and I still remember how much they hurt. I also remember vomitting alot. "

" We've had about 10 Chemo sessions for my 1 year old duaghter. She has a great appetite, but the few days after Chemo she doesn't eat as much. My sister went through chemo and she told me in addition to the painful mouthsores, the Chemo actually makes things taste - metallic. Which is why your daughter might refuse some foods.

I make snacks and drinks available all day long, in plain sight the few days after chemo for my daughter. I notice those days she'd rather snack and eat little amounts throught out the day vs. a full meal. That way I have piece of mind she is eating and drinking something. . . "

" My son also losses his appetite during chemo and a few days after. For nausea or vomiting, ice chips or popsicles help. I feed him whatever he feels like eating because his taste buds change and he may dislike his favorite foods and like others at this time. I also give him smoothies, strawberry-flavored works best for him, enriched with a high-calorie supplement like ensure fortified with bananas. "
