VA SIMPLIFIES RULES FOR PTSD

I TRULY HOPE THIS HELPS MORE VETS HERE IN GETTING THE HELP THEY SO DESPERATELY NEED FOR PTSD.

WASHINGTON -- The Veterans Affairs Department is taking steps to help veterans seeking compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder, VA Secretary Eric K. Shinseki announced Aug. 24.

"The hidden wounds of war are being addressed vigorously and comprehensively by this administration as we move VA forward in its transformation to the 21st century," Secretary Shinseki said.

VA is publishing a proposed regulation today in the Federal Register to make it easier for a veteran to claim service connection for PTSD by reducing the evidence needed if the stressor claimed is related to fear of hostile military or terrorist activity. Comments on the proposed rule will be accepted over the next 60 days, and a final regulation will be published after consideration of all comments received, VA officials said.

Under the new rule, VA would not require corroboration of a stressor related to fear of hostile military or terrorist activity if a VA psychiatrist or psychologist confirms that the stressful experience recalled by a veteran adequately supports a diagnosis of PTSD and the veteran's symptoms are related to the claimed stressor.

Previously, claims adjudicators were required to corroborate that a noncombat veteran actually experienced a stressor related to hostile military activity. This rule would simplify the development that is required for these cases, officials explained.

PTSD is a recognized anxiety disorder that can follow seeing or experiencing an event that involves actual or threatened death or serious injury to which a person responds with intense fear, helplessness or horror, and is not uncommon in war. Feelings of fear, confusion or anger often subside, officials noted, but if the feelings don't go away or get worse, a veteran may have PTSD.

VA is bolstering its mental health capacity to serve combat veterans, adding thousands of new professionals in the last four years. The department also has established a toll-free suicide prevention helpline -- 1-800-273-TALK -- and has a Web site available for online chat in the evenings at the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline. " the problem here is the army is willing to diagnose everything but PTSD. my husband was orignially diagnosed by the army. when we began chapter paperwork, they took his records (without telling us)to another doctor who (without seeing my husband)decided the diagnosis was incorrect. so now we are fighting for benifits. " edit Good vs Evil

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

" Excuse me Jordan but this is not a religious group. This posting has nothing to do with the Bible. This has to do with PTSD. Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. Please keep to the subject. "

" PTSD when an individual experiences the horrific iconic imagery of modern warfare they are unable to vertically integrate the experience to the ego and suffer the ramifications of this inability to deal with the horror's they have witnessed. The reference to II Timothy is directed directly to the VA. More to teh point the VA does far worse work on those with fphysical injuries as well as the mental. "

" Case in point a ypung woman involved in the Marines Iraq is wounded liver and spinal injuries VA reduces pension by ~60% claiming the wound was not part of direct engagement with the enemy yes true this sleight of hand save the VA a few hundred dollars a month in this case and throws the woman into completete and utter desperation. My advice to her.

Letting go of your past means accepting that there's nothing you can do to change the past. You did the best you could. Love may be applied toward any intellectual construct. It is possible to love a cause or a nation, a people or an idea, a person or an object, an event or an emotion. " you're facing your failures, know that you were as good, loving, and effective as you could have been. If you were to go back, you couldn't do anything differently because that's who you were and that's what you knew then. It's done. Let go of your past "

" Not sure what jordan is talking about, but...

That is great news. It's about time they start getting their shit straight. I hope this change is the first of many to come!!!! Not looking forward to dealing with them once they go over my paperwork, which takes "a few months" they said. Ridiculous. Next step they should hire more staff.

"Hurry up and wait" all the way to the end.. "
