I was in Iraq 06-07, and my head's pretty messed up from it all. I spent a long time with suicidal survivor's guilt, I'm thankfully not suicidal anymore. Some days I'm fine and it's not even a thought in my head. Other's images flash in and out, and I have a lot of trouble sleeping, even with ambien. I just thought I'd state my issues and introduce myself. I have many other issues too, but I'll stick to iraq with this

" Scott---the VA hospitals have a good program for treating PTSD. I would check it out. If on active duty still, see your base hospital doctors and ask about being treated for this. It is very serious. Some of my friends from the 60s and 70s killed themselves over this. I am a Vietnam Vet and I had a good therapist help me with my issues. Try to go get help...you will not regret it. "

" I'm in the Army's Wounded Warrior Battalion because of it. I see a social worker once a week and a therapist once a month. I have the resources but its not helping like I need it to, still being active everyone worries about themselves and their time first. "

" Time my friend time.....everything takes time. I hate that cause I always wanted it NOW. We never are cured of PTSD. Sometimes, especially around July, the sound of fireworks sends me ducking for cover. But then I am aware of what is happening. Most of the time I am OK. Once in a blue moon I have dreams about Nam and the death there. I call my AA sponsor and we talk it out. Just stay in touch with therapist and social worker. Talk is good medicine by the way. Just tell them everything that is going on and ask questions if necessary. "

" i was there in 06 as well and lost friends, and i wont lie i still havent shaken the memories of what happened but then again i dont think im supposed to. if theres one thing ive learned is that you will never forget it but what i try and do is use it to my advantage by learning from what happened, and then moving on by being a better soldier and leader. i honor their memories by doing my job and doing it better then i did the day before. thats all i really can do. i wouldnt say it gets better it just gets easier. i talk to my dad whos a vietnam vet and that helps me out a lot, not to mention some of the counselors with CSC.
