Seniors' lobby endorses House Dem health care bill
Nov 5 2009 10:44AM Associated Press Eds: APNewsNow. Moving on general news and financial services. By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR Associated Press Writer Washington (AP) The AARP has officially endorsed the House Democratic health care bill, a major boost for the legislation two days before a historic vote. AARP Senior Policy Adviser John Rother said Thursday that the 40-million strong organization backs the House bill. He said the measure closes the coverage gap in Medicare prescription benefits, puts strict limits on what health insurers can charge older workers too young for Medicare and creates a voluntary, long-term care insurance program. Officials with the seniors lobby said the organization lost 150,000 members since July 1 because of the group's support for health overhaul. But in that time, it also registered 2.7 million new members and renewals. Officials said they were confident their members would see the bill's benefits. http://www.kxnet.com/getArticle.as... i certainly hope so. so many people do not either understand the necessity of health care reform or have been listening to too many talking points against health care reform.
in both cases, ignorance is not bliss. if anything, ignorance of the overall problem and the bills that have been put forth to remedy them only leads to an undermining of the passage of a bill. some of my co-workers actually believe that if health care is passed, that they will lose their jobs. others believe that they will lose their insurance and either be uninsured or have a govt plan that will not pay for their medical needs. these come from some of the ads that have been well placed by insurance companies as well as the GOP.

We need health care reform, but we sure don't need a government run health care. Government is taking over too much already. They can't run what they have so how do you expect them to run your health care. Social Security is broke, the Post Office is broke, Medicare is broke, everything they run is broke including the government. They have already said they are taking 500 billion from Medicare, you are going to be forced to have health insurance and if you don't get it your going to be fined. We need something done with the health care problem but it is not this.

People are leaving AARP in droves because of them being "in bed" with the government....
...that reminds me to mention, when the admin. says the AMA supports this "healthcare reform"...realize that the AMA does not represent the majority of doctors....in fact, the AMA reps only 35% of the doctors today...mostly new docs, who need the exposure....fyi

Being new here, this seems really confusing to me. Alot of the things I have seen is people talking about not being able to get the right care and how it is so bad for people who can't afford their medications and treatments and then people are talking about things that don't really seem to have alot to do with people getting care.
On another part here people are talking about abortion and viagra, but then alot of people somewhere else said that abortion shouldn't be a reason to vote for someone or not vote for someone. And then people are talking about viagra, which also doesn't seem like a reason to vote for someone or something.

It is confusing isn't it. some people are so opposed to health care reform because they believe it will fund abortions. Yet the premiums they are paying right now funds abortions everyday.

lost 150,000 compared to gaining 2.7 million. those percentages of people do not show that as a bad thing.

IMO, there is on doubt we need some health reform, however the goverment getting directly involved does not seem to me to be a sensible solution to our problems given the track record that we are exposed to on a daily basis. why not start with one problem? find a solution, move on to the next. the logic of a 1000 + page solution alone concern me.

Ok - so most of us agree that we need health care reform but some feel this is not the way to do that.
If the government is not going to do insist on reform - who will? We don't have the strength or the numbers to fight the health insurance companies. If they were going to be fair - they would have started being that way before now. The Republicans only came up with a plan last week - when this plan had been in the works for months - why so late? Did they offer to get involved in this bill? NO!! Anyway - it passed the house tonight - so we're on our way.

No, the Republicans didn't offer to get involved in this bill because it was a bad bill that is going to bankrupt America and take away even more of our freedom. They did try to come up with some health care reform but they were rejected. Remember, the Democrates have control of the house so they can do what they want to even if it is against the will of the people.
