As a survivor of Vulvular Cancer for 12 years I am still amazed that while the media talks alot about all other types of cancer this seems to be a taboo subject. When I first got the "pimple" I assumed that it was just that and like many others squeezed it , got out some white gooey stuff and figured that was that. It kept coming back and I finally talked to my PCP about it who thought it was a cyst and gave me a topical cream. Of course that didn't work and I went to my gym who decided to biopsy it and it came back as squamous cell grade 2. I saw a gyn onocologist who wanted to do a full vulvectomy but my hubby and daughter insisted on a second opinion and I found a gym onocologist who had dealt with vulvular cancer alot and he recommended a hemi-vulvectomy which I had in August of 96. I will admit the discomfort during recovery was a real pain in the >>>>> but 12 years later I am still cancer free and doing great. I make a point of telling all women I know not to ignore that "pimple" but get it biopsied asap. Maybe one day this will be part of the information that all gym will tell women about on their yearly checkups. Caught early it is very treatable. I wish all of you good luck and hope that you too can one day say " I beat Vulvular Cancer" even if we have to explain to the uninformed where the vulvular is. Nancy

Nancy, Thank you so much for that post. I found it very comforting. I also had Squamous cell grade 3 and it so far has not come back. I complained just the other day at my check up that there is not enough education about it for the public.
I am only 10 months into this but so far so good..... it gives me comfort to know you have been free of this for 12 years. May I ask you if you have had any other internal cancers or skin cancers? Thanks again for sharing. Oleander

Nope no other skin cancers anywhere. Have not been much of a sun baby since early teens and am a big user of sun screen & large hats lol. Doctor made comments about sun exposure and smoking (yes, i know, i know very very bad) I told him I had not had my nether parts exposed to sun and had definitely not smoked there!!!! I am glad that I had the hemi-vulvectomy and except for having a little extra room in my panties on one side its all been good. Hang in there and know that you can beat this thing.Nancy
