" That makes sense. We hear so much about how being overweight is bad for you, but most of the time people don't want to get into the details of it and it's just a vague threat that they feel isn't worth following up on. I hear SO many overweight people talk about how you only live once and they shouldn't have to do without foods that they like. I agree that you should definitely eat things that are tasty, but you can and should also re-train yourself to not crave foods that are unhealthy. Part of what I enjoy about being vegan is that it stops me from eating a lot of processed food or really fatty foods that I would otherwise consume. I was at a lunch with some co-workers the other day and they had a big plate of fried Mozarella cheese. In the past I could have eaten the entire appetizer myself, never thinking about the negative effects.

One thing I hate to see is parents who have young children that are significantly overweight because when you learn bad habits early, it's so much harder to correct them when you get older. Hopefully something will give and this obesity epidemic will pass. Sad to say, but it might take a generation of children dying before their parents before peple get disturbed enough to really take a stand. "

" I saw a grandma buying the kid candy and telling me he is 1 1/2 and 30 lbs overweight. I didn't say anything. What could I have said?

My niece as a child wanted to be vegetarian and it was not considered convenient by her parents who lied to her about what she was eating. She instictually didn't want meat. Today she eats chicken only as a teenager. "
