My husband is trying to decide whether to have his vasectomy in the office under local anesthesia or to have it done in the hospital and be put completely out.

Any suggestions?

" I had mine done in a Doctors office under a local and I had no problems at all. the doctor shaved me, sprayed me with some type of spray like an underarm deodorant. It was cold at first then, it began to warm up rapidly. He then gave me a shot on each side, waited 10 minutes, cam in made the incision on each side, sewed me up and I went home. The main thing is and I repeat, the main thing is, do not lift, stoop or do anything for 3 days. Just sit around in a chair, get up and down slowly. After 3 days I went back to work and after a week, I put a furnace in my basement by myself. I have had teeth pulled that hurt a lot worse than this.

" my husband had his in the office back in 1989, I was with him..He had heard the horror stories of pain but said the only thing painful was the shot and it was only uncomfortable..we went home, we made love..lol..he wanted to make sure it still worked, thru the athletic support in the trash..pulled his 12 hr shift and has had no problems, are made any more babies since.. I guess everyman is different and has to choose the best place for themselves..hopes this helps some. "

" I had mine in a Doctors office as well. It was on a friday morning, and I dont remember much after getting on the table in the childbirth position which was somewhat awkward..I just remember being wheeled to the car a bit later. I took it easy all weekend, honestly I worried for nothing,I mean you will be sore, but I did not feel pain or anything remotely close. "
