I'm worried that I might have uterine cancer

I'm 58 and in menopause for over 3 years. I've always been in pretty good health, exercised (jogger), I am moderately overweight (could stand to lose 10 - 20 pounds). Over the past few months I thought I was getting fat, especially in the abdomen. But about 2 weeks ago I realized that it was my uterus that was getting large and rather hard. I went to a gynocologist and she agreed, it is enlarged, and I am scheduled for an ultrasound this Saturday.
So, obviously I don't know anything for sure but I am kind of freaked out. I don't have any real pain - just discomfort and pressure from my uterus crowding everything in my abdomen. I feel full all the time. I've had no bleeding. But the speed that my uterus has enlarged is alarming to me. I've had no history of fibroids that I know of, and from what I read, fibroids are supposed to shrink after menopause, not grow. I know I just have to wait to see what the test (and probably subsequent tests) show, but I am jittery and upset in the meantime. I have been reading medical websites about the different kinds of uterine cancers and their symptoms and prognoses, and it just makes me feel worse. Has anyone here had symptoms like this? Any comments would be appreciated. Posted on 09/08/09, 02:09 pm |

Turns out that my uterus is not the issue - my right ovary is huge, more than 10 cm diameter. I am off to the ovarian cancer support group...
