polyps on uterus

Hi. My sis-in-law had a large polyp on her uterus which she had removed. She said she was lucky that the dr said if she had not had it removed it would have developed into cancer. Now she is taking a med that she says is supposed to kill the cancer cells preventing any cancer from developing. I have never heard of this med. I think she misunderstood because if there was a med that killed cancer cells, wouldn't we be in a cancer free world?
Thanks
