I am starting chemotherapy on March 5th for uterine cancer and metastic carcinoma of the lymph
node(s). They only found one of the 17 lymphs biopsied test positive.
The two medications they will give me are:
Paclitaxel and Carboplatin.
Has anyone taken these two drugs? Reactions?
Any ideas how can make this time easier?
Thank you in advance,

" Hello DodiAllen,

By now you may have completed your chemotherapy and I pray that it was successful and that the whole ordeal wasn't too bad. My mom (77) was recently dx with uterine cancer. She just underwent a complete hysterectomy and is due to meet with a chemo therapist soon. If you feel up to sharing any insights from your experience I would be most grateful.

God bless,

Lincoln Ross "

" Thank you for asking, Lincoln. It has been a little over a week since my first chemo--not as bad as I thought it would be. Lots of fatigue. Minor nausea for only 2 days. I have lost 20 lbs, though. Don't really know why. I will ask my doctor at my next appt. "

" Thanks Corgigal for your update. Good to hear that it wasn't as bad as expected. Has your appetite been affected? My Mom goes today for a final test before the chemo sessions begin. Again thanks for sharing, it really helps. Many blessings. "

" I am now 2wks out from my first chemo. I really wasn't that bad. No symptoms on days 1 and 2. Days 3-4 I was achy (like the flu) and mildly nauseous. It all went away on day 5. The worst part was that the anti-nausea meds made me constipated. Once I got off the meds, everything went back to normal. Day-to-day, since then, I have felt normal. Surprising, since I thought that I would be bed-ridden.

I go to my oncologist for a check-up on Friday and to see whether I am healthy enough for a second round of chemo.

Overall, it's not as scary as I thought it would be. "

" Hello again Corgigal.

Glad you are feeling normal again. How's your appetite ?

Mom goes in next week for them to put in the IV connection . Her doctor told her that the medicine and dosage they plan to give her would not make her sick but that she would lose her hair in 6 weeks. At least that is what she told me. (since all of this started sometimes she gets the facts a little scrabbled )

At 77 years old I just hope she can tolerate these drugs as well as they are leading her to believe she can.

Thanks again for sharing and as always many blessings. "

" Lincoln-

I didn't feel like eating the day of chemo. After that, my appetite was "off" for about 4 days. I ate little. The most important thing is to drink a lot of water. Your mom will need to flush the chemicals out of her system after chemo. I kept a glass of water by my side at all times. This is very important. Ice chips, popcycles, whatever she can tolerate. I really think this made a huge difference.

After day 5, my appetite was back to normal. I had dropped about 10 pounds in a week, and was beginning to worry. But once I felt 100%, I ate again and gained back the weight.

Your mom will definately do fine. I am in a support group with folks in their 70s and they are much stronger than I am! And, you are there to support her . . .

Trust me, I imagined the worst, and none of it came true. Just remember, there may be a few (3-4) rough days (like the flu), but it goes away quicker than the flu. Your mom will do just fine.

Regards,
Corgigal "

" Corgigal ,

Thanks for your reassuring support.......I have been a nervous wreck here lately ...especially after catching some of Farrah Fawcett's television speciial last Friday and reading about the young boy, also in the news, who went into hiding with his mom due to some sort of a court ordered chemo regimen I believe.

Your message has helped to reduced my stress level a lot.

Thanks "
