My mother is 80 years old and her cancer was discovered during a hernia operation back in October. She is a former nurse and as such, she takes doctor advice in her own stride. She saw chemo and radiation treatments as being experiments on her, thus she wouldn't allow them. The doctors gave her 6 months to have them before they figured it would be too late. Also to add to her depression, my father had been in a nursing home for his mobility only. She was basically in the home alone and didn't want anyone to help. She dismissed treatments out of fear and became more despondent. She still has no pain, except stomach gas and nausea. She's lost weight, become dehydrated and is in a deep depression. Despite all this, the doctors say she has a chance. But, she has to gain weight in order to begin treatments. If she doesn't do this, the doctor gives her about 3 months. I'm at wits end and I could really use some help and advice.

" i understand what you are going through. had similar problem with my mom who died of multiple cancers.she was also a nurse for many years.does your mother like milkshakes?????where im going with this is you could get Boost or Ensure and add ice cream to it so she thinks it is just a regular milkshake.that would give her the calories and vitamins she needs with the ice cream to hopefully gain weight.i can only speak for the radiation. It does hurt. But there are side effects.I wish you the very best with your mom. good luck. "
