Bed Rest

I am 17 and a half weeks pregnant with triplets and I am wondering when everyone had to go on bed rest. I have no padding on my but and I can hardly stand to sit in my chair at work. I feel like I am being a baby if I go on bed rest to soon, but I hurt so bad when I leave work that I have to come home and go to bed. I can hardly stand up to go home from work at night. I just was hopeing that I would get some advice from my fellow triplet moms and my twin moms too.

" I had twins and went on full bedrest at 28wks. I am very petite to begin with, so they were suprised I went that long. It varies from mom to mom. I know some triplet moms who went on around 22wks and others who, I don't know how, managed to stay off bedrest until 28-30wks. Don't push it! It can be hard to stop those pre-term contractions sometimes. Mine were very hard to stop and I only had twins. Hang in there mama and please try to take it easy. "

" I went on bed rest at 27 weeks. (twins) It was doable but I found my hips really ached - I am not petite.

With triplets, you know better than I do about bedrest timing but my bedrest was completely unexpected so I wasn't prepared. If you are anticipating br, try to prepare as much as possible. The biggest issues I had were with all the things I hadn't completed. My nursery wasn't done, the twins' clothes weren't prepared, I hadn't set up help for my husband, hadn't taken my breast feeding class, or infant cpr class. The guilt I felt was terrible. If I'd known what was going to happen, I would have gotten as much in place as possible BEFORE I was off my feet.

One other tip - I had a case manger with my insurance company who was an angel. She said my insurance would cover once a week house cleaning for up to 8 weeks because of the bed rest. I never would have known without her filling me in. The housecleaning was a God send! She also had a lactation consultant come to the house because I couldn't make it to the class! If you have insurance, check it out - it's certainly worth a phone call.

Hope this helps! Good luck! "

" I am 27 weeks preg. with triplets and have been on bedrest since 20 weeks...not my decision though. I ended up getting an incompetent cervix and having to have surgery. But, I had initially planned on going on bedrest between 20 and 24 weeks anyway. And now i'm on bedrest until delivery. I think you know your body and I had a feeling when i went to my 20 wk. appt that i was going to end up on bedrest. Just trust your instincts...you'll know when it's time. I think it depends on your job also and how much you're on your feet. I'm an ER nurse working 12 hrs. a day on my feet, so it just became too much. Do what's best for you and your babies and it won't be wrong. Hope this helps:) "

" I never went onto bed rest with my twins - I worked until they were delivered. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone out around 30 week, when I really started to feel it, because I ended up getting PIH and delivering at 33 weeks. IT might not have made a difference, but then again it might have. They strong and healthy now, so no time for woulda shoulda coulda's. But if you're already Having trouble, listen to your body - it know s more than you do. "

" Ditto what dawn said about being prepared. Get as much done as you can to be prepared, cause ya never know if or when you will be placed on bedrest. But don't stress getting it done..still take it easy. You know what I mean! "

" Thanks guys, I am trying to decide what to do. Our nursery is totally ready to go, the only thing left is the cribs. I don't want to wait to long to make the decision and then have a problem because of it. I am going to the perinatologist tomorrow and I am hoping that he will tell me what he thinks. "

" I am interviewing obs because I am 8 wks preg with twins. Today a doctor told me he wants his patients preg with twins to go on modified bedrest at 28 weeks because it helps prevent preterm labor. This means 2 hrs in the morning afternoon and evening laying down. I was surprised but I do see the point. Has anyone elses doctor said this?? I'm going to ask some other doctors about it. "

" Please don't feel like you are 'being a baby' for going on bed rest!!! U are going to be doing the best thing for your babies!! I have 9 month old triplet boys and I thought I didn't need bed rest either. At 28 weeks we had our baby shower and I was helping with everything, never sat down... BIG MISTAKE! I ended up going to the hospital the next day with contractions. So after that I knew I needed to keep them in there as long as I could! And I'm so glad I went on bed rest so my boys made it to 33 weeks and had a 3week NICU stay. Your body (and those babies) are going to be giving you signs that u need to take it easy so DON'T IGNORE THEM!! GOOD LUCK and keep updating!!! "

" I ended up on bedrest with my twins at 19 weeks. It was really hard being immobile for so long, but as was said above, it's totally worth it in the end.

I, too, had a lot of hip pain being in bed for such extended periods. I had lots of full-body pillows and a cooler beside my bed that was always stocked with cold water. If I started to a little dehydrated or I walked around too much, the contractions would start and we'd be back to the hospital.

Take it easy and hang in there! You can do it!!! "

" Well as some of you know my husband put the hammer down and said no more. I came home from work and cried I hurt everywhere when I got home and he said that can not be good for me or the babies... he told me to talk to the dr. They wanted my last day to be the 21st but they settled for next friday the 28th. I am nervous about being on modified bed rest, but I am happy at the thought of being able to lay down when I am so tired or my hips are killing me. I have to go by wheat the dr. says because he has a 100% sucess rate with twins, triplets , and quads. He has never losta baby, and I think that is because he tends to be extra careful. "
