I am part of a group that is trying to increase T-13 awareness. We want people to know that when given a chance to live, some of these kids do and bring so much joy to all they come in contact with. My son is 11 years old. He can walk independently and loves to watch tv, look at books, wrestle with his 2 older brothers, and listen to music. He smiles all the time, gives slobbery kisses and communticates by taking us to what he wants. The journey has been hard at times, but oh so worth it. We are trying to get the word out, so that doctors can offer hope with this diagnosis, and not pressure couples to terminate based on what is "suppose" to happen. Go to www.livingwithtrisomy.org to see all the precious children that were given the chance to prove the medical community wrong. They have a place in this world. They remind us how to love unconditionally and appreciate the little things. They teach us courage, acceptance and patience. So, if you or someone you know is expecting a child with Trisomy 13, encourage them to allow this child to live, however long (or short) it may be. I promise you will be forever changed and forever grateful.
