DENTIST VISITS??
Watch this

I'm wondering if any TNers have been to the dentist for a hygenic cleaning. I'm due soon, but anxious about triggering a big TN episode again. I'm on 1100 mg of Tegretol which has kept the pain pretty much under control for a few weeks but wonder if this will also cover a dentist visit. My dentist says he will have the hygenist clean very gently, but I'm anxious about bringing the pain back. Thanks for any advice.

" Since I have constant pain and the dentist visit will excerbate the pain I'm going to least ask for the laughing gas during the cleaning as that is painful in its self
That's a tough one if you are in remission now. I know I would be apprenhensive.. "

" Hi Judelew,

I was thinking about getting some kind of anesthesia, but worry that my teeth will still be a trigger point for a TN episode. Thanks for your comment. "

" Hi dbentz,

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. TN is really a whopper. I'd like to avoid oral surgery, but I'll see what works best for me. Good luck to you. "

" I can so understand your fear! The thought of having my teeth cleaned terrifies me!!!!!! As I think an aggressive cleaning might have brought this on in the first place. And I am scared to death it might set off a major pain attack. I;m due in Dec, I do not think I can keep my appt. If you keep your appt. please let me know how it went.
Blessings, T "

" Hi,

I'm definitely edgy about having my teeth cleaned. My appointment's in February and hopefully I'll be of stronger face and mind by then. I'll let you know how it goes. Until then, be well.

" Almostbuffe, I hate the dentist. I hated it before this happened and now it terrifies the crap out of me. I need to go so bad, I just can't bring myself to it. I want them to "KNOCK ME OUT", but that's not to say the pain won't come back afterwards. I just don't want to be awake and have to deal with the pain and them messing in my mouth. Well, I don't know if we have any advice, we all sound like a bunch of scaredy cats. lol But with good reason. I'm interested to see if there's any advice in this too. Thanks "

" Hi Princess,
Isn't it amazing how normal events take on such huge proportions now? Although my dentist is a wonderfully kind man, I too, keep putting off going to have my teeth cleaned. I'm afraid it will trigger a painful episode afterward. When I finally do go, I'll write about it, hopefully, with "Ah, it was nothing," news. I know what a hard toll TN takes on with ourself, the family, lifestyle, outlook, but we just have to do the best we can. Hopefuly, better, more comfortable days lie ahead. My best to you.

" I am new to this site, and to be honest I had my first TN attack shortly after I had been in for a cleaning on my teeth. Now I cringe when I have to go back. I have an appointment for this coming Tues Nov 3rd and am stating to dread it already. "

" Wow!
I feel so much better knowing that all of you, my fellow TN friends are also aprehensive about going to the dentist.
I have a great doctor, but he didn't have a dentist he could recommend. I need a cleaning and check-up. I have no regular dentist, and have not been in a long time, since TN.
Guess I.ll call up dentists at random, ask if they know anything about TN, and if not, hang-up. Any other ideas friends?
Love, Dulcinea2 "
