Question About False Eyelashes

Hello everyone, this is my first topic I've written on here, even though I've been battling with pulling out my brows and lashes for years. Finally, I'm admitting I need help from this viscious circle.
I go through phases where I pick gradually until I am practically bald in the eyes. Then they grow a bit, and when they are just starting to look good again... I pick!! Guessing most brow and lash pickers will relate. You will also know how bad it looks in public. Although no-one notices if they are far away, I have often wondered about wearing false eyelashes. But everytime I buy them, I am too afraid to wear them. I'm paranoid incase they end up in my glass of wine by the end of the night or something stupid like that. But I'm even more afraid that by putting them on, the glue adhesive will block growth. Does anyone know about this? Thanks. Posted on 11/07/09, 06:11 am |

I know exactly what you're saying when they are all almost back and start to look beautiful again, then you just pick away! It's the worst feeling. But knowing that you can stop for periods of time means you do have some control. I know I can control it on many accounts, which gives me hope that I can rid it altogether, but as we both know, easier said than done.
Anyway, I do wear false eyelashes but if you want them to look as real as possible, it can be very time consuming. I cut the lashes to make them a realistic length, then play around cutting into individual strips and gluing until they look as natural as possible. The glue won't block your real ones from growing back b/c chances are your not going to block the actual root of where they're growing in. In fact, the false lashes have actually helped me grow mine back many times b/c knowing how long it took me to put them on, I won't pick b/c I don't want to have to redo my makeup again. And when I do go to pick, I end up picking off a section of lashes that I glued on, rather than picking at my real ones. Then my attention is directed at having to glue it back on, so I go glue back on and forget about my picking. lol, this might sound crazy to you, but it has worked for me. However, in all honesty, I hate wearing them and I hate knowing how much time iv'e wasted over the last four years doing makeup. But they really have help me get through the worst parts, when the hairs are just growing back. And many times once i grow them all back, I leave them for quite some time. But the picking always seems to come back at one point or another!

I haven't had any problems growing lashes back in when wearing false ones. I agree with jjean -- whenever I need to use false lashes, it actually prevents me from pulling my lashes because I don't want to mess up the false ones (of course, then my hands just go to my brows and hair instead!) so it actually helps me for growing them back.
If I have really significant damage to my lashes, I use the full false lashes, but I try to go for the more subtle ones so I don't look like I'm in a cabaret or something. When I only have spots missing, I like to use the individual clumps of lashes. I have NEVER had either of these types fall out spontaneously...once you glue them on, they stick very well. In fact, I often sleep in them and they are still adhered when I wake up in the morning. Sometimes the full lashes can get unstuck a little at the ends, but this is not really noticeable unless you are looking really, really up close, and can be fixed by adding a little more glue. You should try wearing them around your house on a weekend day to test them out in privacy if you are still worried. Hope this helps, and my thoughts are will you!!

I never leave my house without fake lashes. They look amazing on. I'm not sure about the the glue and the effect it might have on lash growth. You should google it. It's really easy to put them on, try it out. :]

Hi there. I am 51, and I have worn fake lashes since I was 17 years old. They won't fall off unless you get them wet, like crying, swimming, etc. I even sleep in mine because they are a hassle to redo every single morning. I redo them every other day usually. Sometimes I have to "touch up" in the corners if the corner is coming loose. I have found that the best glue is the Duo brand (dark color). White glue becomes invisible, but if your lashes get wet from crying, rain in your face, or swimming, etc., the glue turns white again, and it is very obvious you are wearing fake lashes. That is why I use the "dark tone." I find this at Sally's beauty supply store.
