Feel free to add any quick responces you want. It's your choice if you walk away and take an insult, but don't blame them for insulting you when you don't smack their hand and tell them that's wrong! They are narrow minded and think it's ok. We need to let them know these insults can hurt the same as they can be hurt by insults.

The harder challenges is when the child is at school away from the parents, and then the name calling and teasing starts up from other students. Just as Katie advised "you don't have to sit in silence anymore" go to the prince able office or sit down with your school counselors to let them know about what is going on, and take action against the trouble makers

well I still believe in physics, and if it is bigger than you, and you get in it's way, then the resulting collision is going to hurt. If you have the legal right of way, and a car runs you over, you are going to be hurting very badly or be dead, even if you can sue the person who ran you over. So I make it a point to yield my legal right away if I have to. And getting into a verbal pissing match with some stupid, ignorant bigot is a good recipe for getting yourself hurt. Better to not be around locations where you are going to find ignorant louts like that in the first place. And one of the absolute worst places you can be is in a bar. Sitting in silence may work for you hun but I live in redneck Arkansas! People are mad at me because this bill got passed. They can't take it out on Oboma so they lash out at people like me like the true cowards they are! So you sit there and tolerate their insults as for me I will stand up for myself and my rights as a human being.

We can stand up for our human rights whenever we feel that they are being violated, but do so in a matter that is safe.

Well I was in Wal-Mart earlier today and people were laughing at me a psychological play to lower my confidence. In other words they don't want me in their redneck town. Anyways these 2 women were standing in the middle of the isle looking at me laughing as I was pushing my buggy that way. I looked at the both and said, "he he he, you sound like a couple damn chipmunks laughing." They shut up too. I'd be willing to bet that some people from my town are using this support forum to find ways to hurt me and my message to them is to kiss my arse! I spent the last 15 years of my life in this town and I AINT GOING NO WHERE! If you insult me in public I will do my absolute best to embarrass the hell out of you! Even stand right behind you look at your tooshie and laugh my head off!! I'm not going to make it easy on you and simply walk away when you insult me! I have the same rights to defend myself as any other woman does! Rhonda ya know i love ya hun but if a black person calls me a queer or fag then im gonna call them the N word! Some people need to be reminded that hate is hate and biggotry is biggotry there is no difference between the two words! Katie, are you completely certain that those people are really laughing at you? There was a time in my life when I was confused, I was an alcoholic and I became very isolated. I would be someplace and people would be laughing about something and it would have nothing to do with me, but I was a bit sick then, and I was sure in my mind that they were laughing at me. So is it maybe possible that you could be mistaken about these peoples intentions? And even if you aren't, reacting to them in the manner you are describng seems to me to be the very same redneck behavior that you say you deplore so much. Take it easy Hon, the facts are, most people are so wrapped up in thier own affairs, are struggling with thier own problems, that they really don't have much interest in messing with yours. Times are hard, people are hurting in all kinds of ways. Please don't add to the bitterness.

Additionally, most gender specialist would advise the GLBT community to ignore trouble makers, that be would the wise thing to do, but sadly there are those out there who don’t take heed of the advice, and it is this attitude that causes some of us to become a victim of a hate crime, rather than a survivor from one.

Actually my therapist told me exactly what I said here that you have to let people know that what they are doing is wrong and can be hurtful to you or don't complain when they insult you or laugh at you! Every time you walk away without saying or doing anything when someone insults you or laughs at you, YOU ARE ALREADY PSYCHOLOGICALLY A VICTIM! Rather than keeping all that in me till I commit suicide I think I will stand up for myself. I also carry pepper spray on my key chain which if used properly will send a room full of people to the hospital. So if someone wants to attack me for defending myself with words let them! They will be the ones who go to the hospital and jail. I give respect to Martin Luther King and his methods of turning the other cheek but the African American community in their struggle for civil rights, quickly realized that this was not working. They realized they had to fight for their rights with words or fist! I AM A HUMAN BEING WITH EQUAL RIGHTS AND I AM WILLING TO FIGHT TO THE DEATH FOR THOSE RIGHTS! "I WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT!"

By not standing up you are making it harder for the next person who comes out as transgender. If we let them use us as entertainment and treat us as so then it will continue. THEY NEED TO KNOW WE ARE NOT HERE FOR THEIR ENTERTAINMENT! You're condemning the few transgender people who were brave enough to stand up for their rights! Sorry hun but I know freedom isn't free. Why is it that the n* word is not used very often anymore? Years of African American people who said enough! We demand our rights and freedoms! Years of protest,riots and things that would make some one afraid to say such a word.
