Has anyone tried Bontech Supplements?

I was wondering if anyone has tried Bontech supplemnts. I just ordered them for my son he is 5 years old with TS. I had him on Abilify and clonidine. He wasn't sleeping well at night and he just looked tired all the time. Then the doctor wanted to add Risperdal. I thought oh no no no. The docotrs insist vitamins don't work and I should keep him on meds. Well I asked if the vitamins would hurt him. They said no, so I said then I'll give it a shot. If I can treat my sons tics with vitamins instead of meds I'm going to. The only reason I put him on meds anyway was because the tics were interfering with his school work and he was already delayed.
I've googled the Bontech supplements and saw a lot of good responses but you can't always believe everything you read. I thought I'd ask first hand. Like I said I've already ordered them. Luckily he's still young that it will last me 2 months because it is a little pricey, but I don't have insurance so it's expensive just to go to the doctor. I'm hoping they work atleast as good as the other meds were working. If you have tried them I'd really like your input. If you don't know what I'm talking about check it out www.bonniegr.com Posted on 07/23/09, 12:07 pm |

Hi Katie,
I also looked into the Bontech vitamins. At this time, I have chosen not to have my 8 year old son try them. The reason is when I really took a good look and compared them to regular vitamins, Bontech's dosage is extremely high. You CAN have trouble when taking too strong of a dose with even vitamins. I, personally, can get an upset stomach or at times constipation with just regular over the counter vitamins at low doses, so I am afraid to go to that level with my child. I would strongly suggest you take them to your pediatrician before giving them to your child. Not only is the dosage for each vitmain and mineral very high, but he will have to take a lot of them throughout the day. I did further research about dosing vitamins and their effects and it worried me that I would be throwing his body off kilter with my experimenting and end up with another problem. Certain ones can be very hard on the kidney and liver, etc. I don't want to be a nay-sayer because I too am looking for anything non-medical but even naturapathic remedies can cause side-effects and trouble at certain levels. I find doctors don't even want to talk about vitamins other than the over the counter ones for children, so you may have to push for the conversation. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Hi Katie,
I have 2 sons, the older one is 5 and the younger one is almost 2. My 5 yrs boy has tics too and it started early this year. The tics run 2 months on and 2 months off. Anyways, like you, I worry about him everyday. I am wondering if you have any success with the Bontech vitamins? Do you reduce the dosage since your little is only 5 as well? Thanks, A worried-sick mom

To respond to the first comment, vitamins can cause liver problems etc etc, but so can tylenol. Also the meds my son was on abilify clonidine, taking them can be risky too.
My son has been on the vitamins for just about a month. At first his tics got worse. He was a little out of control for a while there. I was told it was because you have to gradually increase the dose, which I did. The only problem was I increased it gradually for a week and I later found out it's best to do it over two weeks. The tics have calmed down again. It is reccomended to give the vitamins atleast a 2 month trial so I still have a month to go. There are a lot of capsule to take. I think altogether my son takes about 14 a day. There are so many because the amount of each vitamin in the capsules is broken down so you have to take 10 to get the full dosage. He also takes extra mag taurate and epa/dha (all bontech supplements). Right now he his having some trouble in school. Alot of the problems are behavioral ( he also has ADHD). When it comes to the tics I feel he's just about where he was with the meds. Behavior, attention and moods not where I want them to be yet. I'm trying some other methods right now to work on those issues. I still have a month to go and I will see it through.

Also I did not reduce the dosage because even thought the age was starting at 6 for the supplements, the bottle has weight ranges and how many needed. Even though he's 5 ( he'll be 6 in about 4 months) his weight was in the range for the minimum amount.
The meds were scary for me. He wasn't himself. It was very hard (for me anyway) to deal with. Luckily though my son has no problem swallowing capsules. They are adult size capsules and like I said a lot of them. You can break them open and put them in food and drinks but then you have to hope he eats it all. It's not the best treatment for everyone but I had to give it a shot. It's also pricey. I don't have insurance though so either way it was costing me a lot. Think about what I wrote and give me atleast another month and I'll let you know how he is then. If I don't respond in a month reply to this and I'll get the e-mail, and will write back. I unfortunately don't get on here all the time.

Thanks so much Katie for sharing. I certainly hope that bontech supplements help Even soon!! My son just turned 5 and only about 35 lbs. He is only diagnosed with ADHD, but not officially diagnosed with TS at the moment. His tics are not that severe yet. It goes 2 months on and 2 months off. He doesn’t have any behavior problems in school, but at home. Both me and my husband have no family history of TS or ADHD. Our doctor doesn’t think that he needs meds. But I see the trend of TS, it starts with simple tics…. Anyways, I am just so worried, to the point that I can’t control myself not to think about it. I have to take sleeping pill to go to sleep the last few nights I did lots of research online, and come cross other treatment options, like Chinese medicine, Acupuncture, etc… Have you thought about these?? How did you explain this illness to Even? I don’t think that my son could understand this yet?

I tried accupuncture with my grandson, at age 12. He did 8 treatments. The dr said if it was going to help him it would show up by treatment #5. Nothing ..... no difference. He jerked his head the entire time he had the needles in them.
But you never know, it may help your son... good luck. marylou

I saw bontech supplements recently at bontechstore.com
I have two young girls who have participated heavily in development delay and otherwise kid related learning classes. As a result my family has numerous friends with tourette's, autism, etc. related disorders. Being a molecular genetic technician, I was interested in the Bontech concept and took a big look into the effects of the mechanism using magnesium taurate as the substantive carrier in the Calcium-Magnesium mechanism.... I tried to look at other autism and tourette's supplements, but didn't find one that uses as beneficial a carrier as Mag Taurate. IMO-Bonnie was onto something big (a mechanism dietary supplement - that can go well beyond helping tourette's) when she put out her 2002 paper. -JS

Hi, My daughter has sleeping issues along with TS and we did try Calm's Forte.. an all natural suppliment at our local Mustard Seed and it has helped big time!!! Especially since the anxiety turned to panic and eventually she had stopped sleeping at night.. now she has slight anxiety at bed time but falls asleep for a good portion of the night. I just emailed the local natural store and asked if there were anything that could help with her TS.. still waiting on a reply.

We tried Neurofeedback with my child for about 5 months twice a week. It is hard to to tell if it helped with the tics waxing and waning as they do. He did have what I'd describe as a moderate episode before the sessions started while during the 5 months of sessions and afterwards the tics have been mild. I guess only time will tell.
