Reasons for Tooth Grinding

Please list the reasons you think cause grinding. Mine were this combination:
1. Anxiety
2. Depression
3. Smoking
4. Alcohol

Though removing reasons 3 and 4 lessened the bruxism a lot but whenever I have anxiety before sleeping I brux a lot a hear a loud click when I open my mouth in the morning.

Also I would like to know how a single person can evaluate the daily progress of bruxism. I know about BiteStrip but that is too expensive and is only for one time use. I was thinking if there is a electronic device that hears the noise all night and points out whether you were bruxing in the morning.
That would help us a lot about evaluating our reasons and experimenting with different treatments.

" My reasons are
1. Depression
2. Child Abuse (it gets me stressed)

I have Bruxism too. And it'd be awesome, to have a device like that. Though, I don't think many people are so focused on treating Bruxism, and Teeth Grinding that they would make something like that. Though I'll keep that in mind. "

" I think my reasons are stress, but all of my family grinds their teeth, so I think it might just be genetics. "

" My issues are anxiety and I really clench alot.
Anxiet seems to be a big factor in this it seems. I take an atavan before bed and it makes my Tmj better in the morning slightly so I know im not grinding as much. My device is my husband kicking me in the middle of the night to stop.LOL I apparently do it alot during the night. "

" 1. anxiety
2. medications

I had a horrible problem with grinding my teeth as a child due to being abused. I stopped for a long time, but now I think that my problems came back b/c of the medications I'm on. "

I BELIEVE YOU CAN BUY THE BITE STRIP AT WAL MART AND THEY LAST LONGER THEN A DAY. I HAD TO GET MINE FROM THE DENTIST. I HAD TO PAY A LOT FOR IT GUT I'VE HAD IT FOR A LOT OF YEARS. I CAN TELL THAT I'M CLENCHING IN THE MORNING BECAUSE WHEN I WAKE UP MY TEETH ARE TOGETHER AND THEY HURT! I HATE IT. "

I'm on zopiclone so do not know that I am grinding my teeth, the dentist told me, because I have lost two bits of my teeth, so he is crowning one and rebuilding the other. "

" The truth is that all of these things can cause the act of tooth grinding and clenching. Unfortunately we can not control Frequency (how often), Duration (how long) or position of the jaw during these acts (especially at night). Fortunately we can control Intensity. Some patients have had good success with a full coverage night guard, however it doesn't work for everyone. This is likely because the night guard provides an excellent surface to clench on. Another option is the NTI-tss Plus. It's a small, custom piece of plastic that fits over the front teeth. It keeps the back teeth apart which decreases the intensity. I have personal experience with this device and it's great! To learn more go to www.theheadacheremedy.com Oh and if you also suffer from migraines, as nearly 28 million americans do, it's FDA approved for that too. "
