Really the T has a mind of it's own

I have had T, for several years now. Two years ago I joined a choir.
I have been using an ear plug in my bad ear for that period of time. Last night we had a long practice. I usally have to sit by a person with a loud voice to get the melody. This makes it difficult to really hear as I tend to hear my own voice louder because my ear is plugged. But I have been scared to try it without the ear plug.. Well, we were going to do some auditions so I took it off, so I could get the melody down. I was scared to death the my T. would flare. I woke up this morning and I am having a fairly quiet day!!!! Then there are the days when I am doing everything right and the T. is out of control. This tells me, the T. has a mind of it's own. So the only thing you can do is live it one day at a time and know anything can happen. However, I am going to get a lower filter for the earplug, as the music is loud, the piano, drumbs, horns, etc. I don't want to take that big of a chance. I am going to ask about the other ear also. No T. yet but I don't want any more trouble. Be well, all of you, Kasandra Posted on 11/10/09, 11:11 am |

I find the same thing with mine. I can't remember any certain triggers or a list of things I have done differently that affect my T.
Mine seems to be the same day in and day out. I would say stress is the #1 trigger but that seems to affect my entire being. It's amazing what a little thing called stress can do to you! I hope you're having a great day!

Its some what awkward after being a part of this support group to moan and groan about a bad T day. But when these days come along, I have difficulty with it and I just find it upsetting the difficulty in dealing with tasks related to concentration.
My T is intermittent which can vary from soft as a sheep to this giant roaring lion. As we all know it is so annoying. Sorry for this vent, but you're my group and some days I need this more then others. Hope you are feeling better Sandra and Lizzie, Here's to stress free! I really wish everyone well and the sooner the better to the end of this curse.

Kasandra,
In regards to using an earplug while singing you may want to consider custom made musician earplugs that have interchangeable decibel lowering plugs. You hear everything naturally including your own voice plus they don't give you a plugged up feeling.

Thank you for you idea about the musican's ear plugs, I have one which is a 25 and I know I can get a lower one, that may make things easier.
I hope you know Attester that we all need to vent. The hard days are hard to cope with especially when you get several at a time and you just want to scream. I think that this group is here for information and helping each other when we cry out. You vent all you want, we are listening and understanding. We are all here for each other.

I agree Lizzie that the triggers come and go with passing time. Just when I think I have it figured out it does something totally different. I do have terrible days and on those I go to my bed. But most days I try and get on the computer and spend time with The GC. I found out yesterday that traveling a lot of miles in a car is really pretty bad. I have to do it about every 5 months and I know it wasn't this bad last time.

I'm so sorry you are having a terrible day kasandra. Those days are the worse and make you think you'll never make it till tomorrow. Just try and remember that some days aren't as bad as others and that we all love you here. You seem so sweet and caring. It hurts my heart to know that people like everyone here has to go through this Hell day after day.

Thank you MomTags, you sound like a sweet person. I appreciate your caring thoughts.
Tinnitus is something we just have to adjust to know matter what. I am working on the staying positive as much as I can. I have had some really loud days and softer, I used to have days that were quiet, but they took a hike. I am living with it though. I am glad you are here. Big hug, Sandy

I just think our little Tinnitus group is great because we actually know what the other person is going through and can listen, prayer, encourage, do whatever we can to help each other make it through our days and nights. And it one of us needs to vent we are here for each other. I've been a much happier person since joinging this community. I've never done anything like this before but I'm very happy to be part of such a good group. And I love making new friends that understand what T is all about.

I've tried to correlate my T with about everything imaginable--stress, sugar, caffeine, sleep, vitamins, noise, alcohol, etc. For me, honestly, while "stimulants" tend to generally make things worse, there really hasn't been a consistent correlation over time adding to the observations that, in deed, T has a mind of it's own!!
