Recent increase in my unilateral T- scared!

Hello. This is my first post here. I have had mild non-interfering unilateral T since I was a kid. Long story short, I had a cold, blew my nose, and the mucus went the wrong way into my right ear. Ringing starts. Did a saline nasal rinse for weeks and it fixed it. Months later I took a plane ride on a small cesna and my right ear popped and it has been there ever since. But it was so mild that I had all but forgotten that it existed and was certainly never anything I worried over.

But recently my T has gotten much worse. For no apparent reason. I have always worn hearing protection dilligently. I am on no new meds that I have not already been on for over a year or more (Vytorin 2years, and Propecia 5y ears). I have had no trauma and no sinus infections that I know of.

I am not even sure when at this point but it it started being ever so mildly more annoying a few weeks ago. Enough that it got my attention a little to make an appointment with my ENT. Like I said, I have had it so long from when I was a kid that I had not thought about it in years. Now over the last couple weeks it has gotten unbearable to the point that it consumes my every thought.

The familiar sound that I have written off has been coupled by a much higher pitch sounds that warbles in and out. I was wearing ear plugs today and I thought I seemed to notice it slightly change in when I walked. But it is so hard to tell that I cant be sure. I also notice every now and then a mild pain, sometimes a feeling of "fullness" though not like when your ear is actually clogged, and sometimes I hear my tubes clear when I swallow, especially when I wake up. But surely the ENT would have seen fluid when he looked in my ear so I dont know.

If anyone has any thoughts on how I could help this please let me know. My ENT was very dismissive and just passed me off saying I would have to live with it. But something is changing. Something bad. I called him back and demanded an MRI and am probably going to take it to another docter here that is listed by the ATA who claims to have success with cases like this. I am afraid to hope though because there are only horror stories on the internet that make me terrified.

I guess I just wish there was someone to talk to about it because I am really starting to worry that this is it for the rest of my life. All the research I do just leads to fear and dispair making it so much worse. In just the last two weeks I can already see a major shift in my usual Type A strong personality to a much more depressed and reclusive state. I want to make sure that I am not letting my wife down but I dont know how to just get through this.

I started taking Gingko and claritin a few days ago. We will see if that helps. So far, nothing.

Thanks for your help if you can.

" Hi zuhl,

Welcome to the site.

First off do a good search of anything that you are going to start taking and check here to. There are lots of things such as Claritin that are on a tinnitus antagonist list. Meaning they can make t worse or in some cases introduce someone to tinnitus. I have seen claritin on such a list. I try to stay with benedryl for the knock me out and I will sleep better effect.

" Zuhl,
First of all you have come to the right place. Second of all, dont be scared.
I haven't been here that long but I do know that a lot of people with a lot of knowledge on this subject will be online Monday. It's the weekend and everybody is busy with family, etc.
This is a great group and with everybody pitching in, you'll receive support, love, encouragement and hope.
My very first post here is titled Do Not Want to Socialize. Pull that up and read it if you want to. I didn't want to leave my house and I still battle that but since becoming a member here I have been out more the last several weeks. That's a miracle in itself!
Hang in there. Help is just around the corner! "

" I have had trouble with changes in the T. becoming loud. I used to have it every so many days. Then I went on a trip to San Francisco.
When I got back, I lost my good days.
I went to the ENT. and he said it was a pressure problem and to irrigate and and use Sudified. I can't use Sudified as I have beneign heart palpitations which Sudified makes worse.
I also have allergies and I started to use Allegra, I don't know if this is on a bad list, but I think it dryed out my sinisus and maybe my ear to some extent.
The tinnitus is not gone, but I seem to have quieter days when I use the antihistmine. I am not sure why.
The people here will help you with much information,
Please don't be scared, this will pass.

" Thanks for the kind words. I actually started the claritin since this began because it was an anithistamine. I have never taken it before. But this morning the most awesome thing happened. It was back at its old benign levels. That lasted till I got out of bed then it went back up but not to the point it has been. I dont know if it could be because of the gingko and claritin that I just started or if it is because whatever caused it is started to subside. Today it is not that bad but I do have a very high pitched warble still. But it is much easier to deal with. I am going to keep praying and keep hoping, and try to keep my spirits up. Thanks again. "

" Hi again, I just wanted to say that in the morning when I get up the same thing happens. I think it is a pressure or a fluid thing. I also have sinus problems which effects my my ear. That could be the pressure you feel.
I am still trying to figure out these things as well. But it was a very good sign that it was better today. Maybe in time if will resolve and just be gone.
I wish you fast healing.
