Well, I have now learned that if you don't get enough sleep, drink to much coffee, eat too many sweets, get nervous, eat too much salt, worry too much or OCD on it, will cause your T. too get worse. And I am now thinking it has a mind of it's own. Some things make sense, some things don't. And maybe it will never make sense to me.
I am going to fly next week for about two hours to San Francisco. The last time I flew, the tinntus changed to more loud days. I am hoping it won't happen again. Any ideas? I do use an ear plug on my bad ear, should I use one on my good ear as well? I use one made up for me on the bad one, is foam okay for the other one? Also, should I skip the movie, sinse you have to take one out to hear.

Thanks very much.

Kasandra

" Hi Kasandra, I am also flying this week. I did some research on noise canceling headphones and came up with a moderately priced pair. They are " JVC HA-NC250" for about $108.00 at amazon. I just received them so I can not say how they work, but they got some good reviews. There are better ones out there "Bose" but the price tag is a bit steep for me. Hope you find something that works for you, and have a nice flight.
Stay well.

" Kasandra and Jim,

I have not flown for 2 years now and always wondered how it would affect the t. I would be interested in how you both do. I have heard sitting in front of the wing as far as possible without having to pay first class is the best and using noise canceling headphones. Best wishes for pleasurable flights. "

" Hi Everybody,

Well I have just returned from 2 week vacation to Florida. Had the most amazing wonderful time as always. The last time I was there was 2 years ago and before T struck. So yes, I was quite concerned about the flight which was 8 1/2 going and 7 1/2 coming home. I was armed with earplugs, headphones ,music on Ipods and walkmans, plenty to read, loads of conversations and also the in flight movie which was "Wolverine " coming home and I can't remember what I watched going (too much has happened since!!). The main point here I think is a lot of distraction and not too much worry before hand so the T doesn't crank up with stress before you leave. I don't know about the place of sitting and if that changes anything. I was in the last few seats at the back of an 747 Jumbo Jet and it was noisy no matter where you was on the plane. But I think that if the T does jump up a little it will return to normal within a few days anyway. I was actually more concerned with the water in the ear from swimming...but that was ok too.

Oh just to let you all know....I was actually there for the Space Shuttle Discoveries take off into space. We went to Kennedy space centre both Monday night when it was cancelled and then again on Friday night. We were so lucky as we flew home on Saturday and it was our last chance to see it......words cannot discribe......incredible doesn't do it justice.

" I have flown a couple times in the last year since I got T. I would advise some ear plugs as the db level can be really high depending on the jet and your seat location.

I would take them in and out, but, mostly left them in. I do agree, some good headphones make sense as they block out the sound without blocking your ear canals. "

" Kasandra,
I have experience all the same things that you mentioned. I have found out by doing all those things that you mentioned (sleep etc) that the severity of the T begins to aleviate and makes it much easier to live with, but for me very rarely completely goes way. Don't even ask if I don't get enough sleep etc; it is mine boggling. So there is great incentive to be constantly aware of all these triggers.

Flying for me hasn't been a problem. Actually the T has reacted less, maybe with the thought that I was getting away. I was also concern about the flight, therefore skipped the movie.

Mandy, great to hear from you. Welcome back. Again you are so right about the distraction technique. The shuttle take off sounds amazing. I've been there on a landing, but I have to see the take off one day. "
